I've not found much to love in Civitavecchia. The hotels are very, very average for starters. Some have found some charm there -- perhaps I have not looked hard enough. 🤣 There isn't much to do in Civitavecchia proper, but a couple of opportunities for nice daytrips:  Tarquinia, a lovely medieval town with great Etruscan museum and absolutely fascinating cemetery with the painted tombs. You could do this on your own via a short bus ride from Civi.

If you wanted to rent a car or arrange a day tour, it's possible to see Orvieto -- which come to think of it, would be a much more inviting place to stay if you want to avoid Rome. Take a look at it and see if you find it appealing as an option.

If I were going to hire a car, I think I might go to Ostia Antica, rather than Orvieto. It’s possible to do it on the way from the airport to Civitavecchia, or even to stay near there and then make your way to the port the next day, A few years ago, we stayed at a very quirky B&B, part of the Rodrigo de Vivar resorts, very close to Ostia Antica. It was well worth the effort, IMO.

We are also planning a Mediterranean cruise that will end in Rome.  It is the first time for us to sail in Europe and to visit Rome.  So we are also nervous about transportation options.  I read a lot about the trains but prefer not to have to deal with my luggage.

Does anyone have feedback on the following transportation options?

Civitavecchia Shuttle Express (looks like you can share a van with a total of 8 people. And even if 8 people don’t reserve, they will charge the same price). https://www.civitavecchiashuttleexpress.com/shared-shuttle-service-from-to-civitavecchia-cruise-port.html

Bus Shuttle  https://www.getyourguide.com/rome-l33/civitavecchia-port-shuttle-bus-tofrom-rome-termini-station-t223122/

Thank you so much for any input!

Get Your Guide is a third party site, purchase directly from the operator.  I provided the link in your other posting.

Thank you for the direct link!  I saw it in your reply in the other thread.
