jakenzie32 Posted May 17, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 17, 2023 We arrive back in Miami on January 28, 2024. It looks like this is the date of the Miami Marathon. Would I be able to make a 1:00 flight out of Fort Lauderdale? What time would be "safe" to book a flight out?
Rare BoozinCroozin Posted May 17, 2023 #2 Share Posted May 17, 2023 Based on this year, I would not take a chance.

We are sailing out of Miami on that date, understand there will be lots of road closures, wondering if anyone can give advice on best area to stay 2 nights pre-cruise for easiest route to the port on marathon day. Airport area? North of the port? South of the port? as close to the port as possible? Etc
Rare BoozinCroozin Posted July 3, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) The roads in and out of the port area are all blocked off. It was hours of delays. Some people got out of their rides and lugged their luggage a mile or more on foot to get to port. If the marathon is the weekend you are going, I would make sure you are 100% inside the marathon route and ports. Too many road closures and too much traffic in the only way to port. As you can see below, everything is blocked off where that 12, 13, 14, 25, 26 are. Every single route to the port is pretty much blocked off. 1 or 2 vehicles getting through every few minutes. You want to be right around what looks to be Bayside and you would want to be there around 4AM if not earlier. So hotels like Yve, Yotel, Holiday Inn, Intercontinental would be KING. Otherwise, wake up 2-3AM, get a ride to Bayside and relax with all your stuff there. Anyone west of those orange lines is in for a rude awakening. You want a hotel between the START and FINISH markers on this map and east of 12/13. Edited July 3, 2023 by BoozinCroozin
Rare LHT28 Posted July 3, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 3, 2023 You can check the schedule https://www.themiamimarathon.com/weekend-schedule/#1583889585378-41c55050-0c74 We were there one year & it was basically over by the time we went to the port at 1pm It was probably worse for those disembarking though
jsglow Posted July 3, 2023 #6 Share Posted July 3, 2023 (edited) As I recall, there was a major bus accident that occurred inside the tunnel from the MacArthur Pkwy that absolutely ruined port access for many hours. No doubt the marathon significantly compromised alternative routes until it was completed but the untimely accident was the root cause of last year's problems. Locals can elaborate and provide additional detail. There is no chance that Interstate 395/Mac Pkwy access is closed for the marathon beyond about 7:30a (if at all) as the tunnel ramp is near mile 2 of the route. Thank you. We are staying in Hollywood. Seems like we can use I95/MacArthur Pkwy/Tunnel to get to the port.
