That's correct, put your phones on airplane mode but turn on wifi. Your app access will be via the ship's wifi. As you won't be accessing the internet via the wifi, there'll be no cost involved.

Nope, we have 4 in the party and only 2 have the app (myself and Mom). We tag team the check-in and even have a competition to see who can do it faster: Mom and Dad or me and my niece.

 

For the cruise, we use my app mainly, with Mom's as a backup.

No, it's not necessary; however, it's a free download and is handy -- so why not?

My mom doesn’t have a smart phone…
