izzywalker Posted May 25, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 25, 2023 Hi fellow cruisers our friends have booked a cruise to the Mediterranean for 14 nights with us. As they have a holiday home in France they want to know if/how many days will count towards their European 180 day allowance. Does anyone know officially the guidelines for travelling by sea to eu countries as we will only be in port for a matter of hours. thank u

Host Hattie Posted May 25, 2023 #3 Share Posted May 25, 2023 Where does the cruise leave from? If from inside the Schengen zone I'd say the whole 14/15 days would count. If from the UK I'd say from day of arrival in first Schengen country to departure from last.

Possibly excluding any sea days between Schengen country visits, or non-Schengen ports, say, in the middle of a cruise. But, to be on the safe side, I'd go with your view.
fruitmachine Posted May 31, 2023 #5 Share Posted May 31, 2023 In and out the same day counts as one day of your 90, so a ship visiting 14 Schengen ports over 14 days would still count as 14 days. If any of the calls were outside Schengen, then I guess they could deduct them, but they'd need their passport stamped when leaving from and returning to Schengen. Ours never left our room safe, let alone being stamped, when doing an Italy-Croatia-Montenegro-Croatia-Italy cruise last month (despite Montenegro being outside Schengen).
