Viking Homelands Excursions, Mobility Challenged

My wife broke her foot recently. We are on Viking Homelands cruise Bergen to Stockholm.  She will be using a knee scooter.  Which excursions are a no go for her.  Can walk for 45 to 60 min at a time with scooter.  Is willing to stay on ship when necessary.  Comments and suggestions.

All I will say is that many of the streets in many of the cities are cobblestone.  You are NOT walking / rolling on smooth surfaces.  This is where you are walking, not just where the cars are driving.

 

We had one man on our excursions that complained on several excursions that "these cities should pave over the cobblestones and make it easier for us to walk".  

 

There were also stairs on several excursions.

 

Not sure that this will be easy for you.

I agree that many of the walking surfaces will be cobblestone, bumpy uneven surfaces and stairs.  Besides the terrain issue, i believe bringing any mobility device other then a cane, walker or trekking poles must be approved in advance by Viking.  They may also require a travel statement from your doctor.  So sorry that your wife broke her foot.

I haven’t used this walker. But I find it better for me to go on included bus excursions. And send my husband on a few more active ones.

On Homelands - even the included ones had the cobblestones.  They were everywhere.

If you are using a scooter you arn't walking. Even 'easy' excursions nay include cobbles or steps. Google Streetview is best for research, combined with the website of the place you want to visit. Completely independent or use ship arranged busses for a to b transport only is usually easiest. Just check when and where to meet up for return and let guide know.

What about getting on and off the ship?  There are some ports where it will be a steep climb up and down the gangway.

On the Homeland cruise right now. In Eidfjord today. Getting off the ship is a full flight of stairs, then have to get on the bus. Pretty hard if you have a mobility issue.
