kstetser Posted May 31, 2023 #1 Share Posted May 31, 2023 (edited) We will be porting in Stavanger, Nordfjordeid and Skjolden. We have a rental car in the first 2 ports and plan to go hike. No rental cars in Skjolden, so we are pedestrians. I see a few trails that are accessible from the town. Anyone have experience/recommendations? (Group excursions are not our thing.) Our ports changed and now we have Skjolden and no car. 😞 Edited May 31, 2023 by kstetser
Joey_L Posted January 14 #2 Share Posted January 14 Can you let us know how you spent your day in Skjolden? What can you recommend? We are visiting the town on a cruise in June.
pink845 Posted January 22 #3 Share Posted January 22 We will also be in Skjolden in June 2024. We went onto U tube and came across quite a few people with videos who hiked to the Andassen waterfall (there are others around too) or rented bikes and toured around town. In addition to walking around the lake and up to the viewpoint which is up away from the Cider house across the lake from where the ship will sit. Seems very manageable. We are big walkers so 3 km not a stretch for us. People also walked to where the Llamas are found. Of course, one would have to pay to walk with the llamas, but it seems good to see them from the road. The little town is pretty close to the pier as well. Looks like a 10 minute walk there. From U Tube videos, very very scenic. But be prepared for weather and bring those waterproof coats and pants
biggerbearmom Posted January 23 #4 Share Posted January 23 We were in Skjolden in June 2013 on Celebrity. It was one of our favorite stops, it’s just a tiny village. We took an excursion that took us through the countryside to the Urnes Stave Church. The narrow, one way roads, on a tour bus were an experience. Our guide was a local college student and it was so interesting and memorable having her point out to us her grandparents farm and talk about life in Skjolden. The Stave church was so interesting and is on the UNESCO World Heritage list. We have since been back to Norway many times and have another trip booked on Hurtigruten for this coming September. Norway and Sweden are truly my happy place.

Do you mean Åsafossen Waterfall perhaps? We've got a hike planned to that waterfall along with a hike to Sengjaberget viewpoint and a walk around the town of Skjolden. That amounts to a 2.5 hour walk from and to the cruise terminal without resting according to Google Maps.
