Juneau excursion: Mendenhall Glacier and Salmon Bake

Recommended Posts

The description says the buses from the bake depart  back to the ship frequently so one can linger there at will.  No mention of time allotted at the Mendenhall Visitors Center. So I am wondering if anyone knows if lingering at the visitors center is optional as well during the excursion… might buses depart frequently to Gold Creek salmon bake???

I am thinking I’d like to walk to the Nugget Falls from the v. center if time allows.

I remember a couple who did this very excursion last may 2022 and was telling us about it during dinner that night.  We had done Mendenhall on our own.  She said they had over an hour and had walked to the Nugget falls themselves.  We had done the salmon bake plus a whale watching on an afternoon tour and we were comparing notes on it.  I don't remember us talking about the buses between the falls and the bake, only the bake back to the port.  Hope this helps a little.

I just did this excursion in May. We had an hour and a half at the glacier before the bus took us to the salmon bake. You did not have options for multiple buses to get to the salmon bake - you had to get to your bus at the designated time. It’s leaving the salmon bake that is at your leisure, with multiple buses.

I loved this excursion and thought it was well worth it.
