Icefield flightseeing and dog sledding, in Skagway?

Sailing on the Regent Explorer.  In skagway we are considering doing the Icefield flightseeing and dog sledding.  That said, do we actually get to dogsled on snow/ice?  Or is it one of the ones where the sled is on wheels?  Do we land on the glacier or "near" it?    A bit confused about how this is written.  Thanks in advance.

  • Take an inspiring helicopter ride over the glacial icefields near Skagway.
  • Land near Denver Glacier and meet professional mushers at a dog camp.
  • Spend time with the huskies that will pull your dog sled.
  • Stand at the back of the dogsled and mush or relax in the sled.

Flightseeing meets dogsledding in this one-of-a-kind adventure that combines two iconic Alaskan modes of transportation. Soon after taking off from Skagway in a helicopter, you will be soaring high over some of North America’s most spectacularly scenic countryside, a land of rugged peaks, roaring waterfalls and ancient glaciers. Your destination will be a dog camp in the shadow of Denver Glacier, which is a hanging glacier that stops abruptly on the edge of a cliff. It’s an extraordinary setting, where you will meet the camp’s professional mushers and a team of powerful huskies that can effortlessly pull a loaded sled. After a few tips on dogsledding, you will be presented with the option of standing at the back of the sled and mushing or simply relaxing in the sled while another guest mushes. Either way, you can expect a thrilling ride through the glacial landscape.

    HELPFUL HINTS
    • Dress warmly in layered clothing, a hat and gloves.
    • Wear comfortable hiking shoes.

You get to do a short dog sled on snow/ice.

You do not land on the glacier but near it.

Here is a better description.

Your Skagway Helicopter and Dogsled Excursion is a two-hour excursion that will delight you from start to finish. Your excursion takes off right from the historic Skagway waterfront to begin your tour. From here, you will begin your 15 minutes of breathtaking helicopter time over the mountains of Skagway on your journey to Denver Glacier. Here, your Skagway dog sledding tour will begin. You will have 30 minutes to explore the dog sledding camp, interact with the dogs and mushers, and learn about this traditional Alaskan sport. Then, it’s your turn to experience the excitement of mushing! You will hear the energy and joy the dogs feel as they are selected to run, yipping and straining against their harnesses, and you will be given the option to assist the musher driving the sled or hand over the reins and enjoy the ride. There is truly nothing like a Skagway dog sled tour on snow! Your Skagway Helicopter and Dogsled Excursion ends with an equally beautiful 15 minutes of helicopter time back to Skagway as you stare down at Denver Glacier and the spectacular Lynn Canal.

If you want just a flight try Mountain Flying based in Haines. I have done several flights with Paul out of Skagway including a great flight over Glacier Bay. We even landed in a mountain pass overlooking the bay, but this is a rare event.
