mcrcruiser Posted July 4, 2023 #1 Share Posted July 4, 2023 It seems to me that a ship like Koningsdam should have more Handicap cabins than what they show on Decks 4,5& 8 , what is the normal for ships to have handicap cabins .Id the number based on total cabins or some other number ? FOPMan Posted July 4, 2023 #2 Share Posted July 4, 2023 Holland America entered into an agreement with the US government regarding the minimum number of accessible cabins that needed to be included in new ships. From my perspective, it is not nearly enough. The bad part is the cabins need to be a little larger than others, and HAL can’t charge more for their use when sailing from the US, so they put the minimum needed by the agreement to maximize their revenue. If they put in, say, 4 more disabled cabins, it would “cost” them a fifth cabin, and that is lost revenue.

There are accessible cabins to be found on decks 1, 6 and 7 as well as 4, 5, 8 on all the Pinnacle class ships. Could there be more cabins or regularish cabins with larger doors for mobility devices, yes.

And while the bathroom may not be equipped, the doors on all suites are larger than regular cabins and will accommodate mobility devices.
