Panhandle Couple Posted July 21, 2023 #3 Share Posted July 21, 2023 We did a Jeep tour on Tortola this year that was great, and thru NCL. A little pricey, but you get to go in several places no bus tour will take you. It is single file driving, and you may have to share the Jeep. We were lucky and got one just for us (just the way the numbers worked out vs amount of Jeeps, and having a last name at the end of the alphabet). The Jeeps were recent models (all JL's) and is reasonably good shape. There are no flat roads on Tortola except along the coast line, and we never went over 35. Windows down, tops down, allows you to see and smell the island.
zqvol Posted July 21, 2023 #4 Share Posted July 21, 2023 Be advised that in the VI driving is on the left so make sure you are comfortable with that before renting,
Rare Dorhead1230 Posted July 21, 2023 #5 Share Posted July 21, 2023 Just another heads up as far as this goes regarding Tortola. That’s the only location in the VI where we rented a car several years ago. DH is a big car guy…there’s no car and no location he won’t drive lol. In Tortola, they drive on the left, but the cars they were renting out were still left-side drive like American cars, rather than right-side drive like British cars. So you’d not only need to be okay with driving on the left, but with driving an American car on the left side of the road. It is a little confusing. The roads are narrower than most places, and as I said, nearly all up and down with some hairpin turns thrown in. You don't drive that fast and it is slow going when meeting oncoming cars in many places. Have a good navigator, because turning around can be dicey.
