Verizon in Japan

For those that have gone before us........to Japan...from the USA.....

 

We are Verizon folks.  Verizon says "yes" to access in Japan for ten bucks a day.  

 

Will I be able to use my iPhone just like I do in the good ole USA (call, text, data)?

I don't think you can call local numbers -- or perhaps they just don't usually pick up. Pocket wifi or a local eSIM is probably an easier, cheaper and more reliable option.

I'm getting an eSim for Japan calls and using the Verizon Wifi calling  on the ship and hotels, and any trusted wifi sites.  On past cruises, the Verizon wifi calling worked great on board with texts, calls and video calls. I went back and forth on a pocket wifi, but I decided I will be carrying enough devices, I don't need another chargeable device to lug around. .Just be aware, you have to carefully manage your cell  service and roaming settings

So it is only $10 a day to use my Verizon phone....and Verizon says that it will work just like at home.....I'm really not interested in calling anyone in Japan.  I would like to use the "Japan Official Tourist App" to get train schedules.  And use google maps when we are lost.  

 

Any intel if Verizon "works as advertised" in Japan?

 

(We've been successful in Europe and South America ...so hoping the same for Japan)

I used Verizon while we were in Tokyo last March. I didn't make any calls but did use an app for the subway while out and google maps. No issues.
