Panama Canal excursions recommendations

Wife and I sailing on Vista on Jan 19 2024 (this is 4th Oceania sailing). One stop is Colon and wondering what do you recommend for these excursions? Train ride along length?  Take a ferry boat and sail thru the canal? Is railroad dome car worth the extra?

Are you traveling through the canal? Have you been to Panama City before? Have you toured the Miraflores Visitor's Center?

Whatever you do DO NOT wander beyond the pier in Colon. It's nasty and dangerous.

When you answer the first questions there should be some good responses.

This cruise just stops in Colon--then you take excursions. One excursion, you get on a ferry boat and travel thru some of the canal.  Any inputs?

Train ride from Colon to Panama City was fun but the bus ride back was very long. If you go take O excursion because due to massive traffic you may be delayed and not make ship sail.

No need for Dome lots of forest greenery. Did not get to see much of the canal itself very overgrown.

No idea about boat in canal.
