Comfort Check in question

So I just did the Comfort Checkin for our cruise next week, but they would not take our credit card because it is a Mastercard. We paid for the trip with that card. Why is it not acceptable for onboard payments? I've never heard of this. We've used the same card on other Viking cruises. Has anyone had any experience with this?

Is it possible that Viking wants to block X amount of $ on the card and that isn't available on the card?

MVJ now says it cannot accept Mastercard or Discover Card. Not sure why. I believe this is new. Maybe their website doesn’t support it or maybe they are charging more for their service? It also could be they cannot save security info or lack thereof for those cards so you need to use them in person.

I just spoke with a Viking agent online & she said Mastercard does not allow them to save the info however, we can use the card onboard.

You use another card as a placeholder, then switch to your Mastercard when you check in on the pier. We’ve done it twice with no pushback.

You can also skip the credit card part of checkin entirely and give a credit card in person at the ship.  
 

We have to do that for our cruise next week, since all of the payment info defaults to Canada and we’ve moved since booking but there is no way to change the default country.  Just calling in to make payments and to give a credit card at the ship was the only solution offered by our PCC in consultation with his supervisor.
