Luggage drop off

Can you drop off your luggage at the port before boarding time, like 10:30 or 11:00, and simply walk around town until you are allowed to board.  I seem to recall that Seabourn let's you do that, but I wanted to double check.  Thanks.

It can depend on the port I think. We tried to do that a few years ago at Piraeus and the port authorities refused to allow anything to start until midday. Luckily we only we there just before midday so only had a 20 minute wait before we could leave our bags and go to a local restaurant. There were a lot of disgruntled passengers there waiting to board.
