Actual Cabin number vs. Guaranteed Category

I have heard of some cruises getting bumped into nice suites if they have a guaranteed category, grant you it is usually the next category up, not ocean view to penthouse.  How often do these upgrades happen and is it worth chancing being thrown anywhere on the ship in your category or higher?  My TA and I try to do a deck cushion between pool decks, lounges, theaters, casino, and restaurants.

Generally a guarantee will get you a cabin in the lower level of the category.  Since Celebrity started Move Up which generates additional revenue the chances of booking a Oceanview guarantee and getting anything higher are extremely slim.

I personally would not take the chance of booking a guaranteed, hoping to get an upgrade to a higher category, as you might end up in a cabin that you'll not enjoy.

When I book guarantees, I make sure that I'm comfortable being assigned to any of the remainder inventory available on the ship. My personal experience has been that they always assign the least desirable cabin available. Maybe others have better luck, but that has not been my experience.
