Warning about taxi driver in St. Thomas

The man’s name is Felix. As he said, "Not the cat". We agreed on a price for an island tour. My original tour bailed on me. I made the mistake and told him how much that tour was to be. I stated to him I was not going to pay him that much because I wanted a shorter tour. And we agreed on a lesser amount. Had a great time but when we got back, he stated that I owed him the amount of the other tour. We went back and forth. I ended up paying him the amount of the bailed tour. I even went to the tour supervisor and told them about what went on. The supervisor lied and said that he was there when we agreed on the price. No, the supervisor was not there. But I just chalked it up to me being caught in a scam. Now I record what the quote is on my phone. DO NOT GO WITH FELIX on St, Thomas. The funny thing is that right as I am getting ready to go, I asked Felix if I could take his picture to post online to show everyone what a rip-off artist looked like. He immediately covered his face and ran away. But I do have a picture of him.

I know port to beach price is fixed and regulated (they have a sign by the port), but I wanted a little detour on the way. I was worried about the same situation like what you described above, so I eventually gave up the detour. Most situations like this, there is no proof of what was agreed.

Here's the deal I've been riding in the back of some type of taxi on St. Thomas for almost 30 years.

Other than riding in the back of a safari van I travel solo and ride shotgun with alot of taxi drivers.

The taxi drivers at Havensight and Crown Bay never a problem, always find me a ride, are polite, cordial and always there to help.

Reliable, very fair priced transportation via taxi's on St. Thomas or St. John never a worry.

The taxi fares to many destinations are posted at both cruise docks. If you don't see one, you should ask where it is. The price is per person to the destination. If you are solo and have the vehicle to yourself that's a private trip and is very expensive.

If your destination isn't on the rate chart you need to ask what the fare will be for the number of people in your group.

Some taxi drivers go out of the way to provide excellent service at a fair price, whereas some only see you as a dollar sign. Unfortunately, being seen as a dollar sign happens in many locations around the world.

I was aware that the prices can be fixed. As they are in many places around the world.  I have been to many islands and countries on five different cruise lines. Not my first rodeo.

And as noted in my post above I was not asking for transportation to a particular point.

I have never had a problem until this instance. I also have had some wonderful people give me tours of a lifetime.

This post is meant to warn others about this particular person. And as a public service announcement that if you are not going to a place that is posted, it would be best to get proof of the agreed upon price.
