fraj1 Posted January 9 #1 Share Posted January 9 We are docked in Sorrento from 8am to 6pm and would like to do Capri independently but are fearful of missing the ship's departure. Can you book specific times on the ferries and are they reliable? Any specific recommendations for ferry companies ? If we dock at 8am what might be the most sensible earliest time to book a ferry? Rare cruisemom42 Posted January 10 #2 Share Posted January 10 Thousands of cruise passengers make the ferry ride to Capri on their own. There are frequent departures & returns from Sorrento and the ride only takes 20 minutes in a high-speed ferry or 30 minutes in a fast ferry (don’t take anything slower). Schedule is at https://www.capri.com/en/t/sorrento/capri You can pre-book tickets online but you can’t choose a seat, it’s first come first seated. If you want to buy return tickets at the same time you are limited to the options offered by the carrier you choose for the initial crossing. Many people choose to pre-book or buy their ticket to Capri, then upon arrival at the Capri marina, buy your return ticket immediately at your preferred time so you don’t have to worry about it later. I don’t think there is any savings if you purchase roundtrip tix. You mention docking in Sorrento, but as far as I know, Sorrento is only a tender port. You’ll be tendered to Marina Piccola, which is the same place where ferries leave for Capri. So it’s quite easy but as far as your start time, you’ll have to allow time to ferry from ship to shore — which can take a while on large ships trying to offload lots of passengers for tours.
