Hello,

We will be cruising on Celebrity Equinox and passing through the Strait of Gibraltar at the end of April in 2025.  Gibraltar is not one of our Port stops.  Our stop after going through the Strait will be Cartagena, Spain.  We are curious as to whether anybody has been on this itinerary before and knows if the passing through the Strait occurs in the daylight hours or when we will be fast asleep.

Enquiring minds would love to know.

Thanks.

Sound like you are inbound to the Meddy, so when sailing through the Strait of Gibraltar, the traffic separation scheme has Eastbound ships on the African side of the channel, which is 6 to 8 miles from the Rock.

Based on the distance to Cartagena, you have a good chance of the transit being in daylight. However, many of the times I have sailed these waters it was hazy with limited, if any views of the rock.

Thank you.  That is good information.

  • 2 months later...

I did a TA last November, Barcelona to Tampa. Travelling through the straits a small group of about 20 people gathered at the bow. (if it had been a Disney voyage there would have been hot chocolate and toddys!)

There was so much fog all day. We followed our cruise progress via some app on people's phones. We never did hear or see Gibraltar much to our dismay. We finally left one lonely person and went to bed at 1 am.
