1 dead, several hurt in cruise ship fire

 

Blaze started in cabin, spread to other rooms during Caribbean trip

 

MIAMI - A person was killed and several injured when a fire broke out on a cruise ship in the Caribbean early Thursday, company officials said.

The Star Princess was en route from Grand Cayman to Jamaica when the blaze started in a cabin, according to a statement from Princess Cruises. The Santa Clarita, Calif.-based company said the fire was out later Thursday morning and officials were trying to account for all the passengers.

The ship is carrying 2,690 passengers and 1,123 crew members.
