13 of us went on the beach resort getaway on Feb. 1 of this year. It is terrific. It is Maya Palms that you'll want to look for when searching posts. Beautiful private resort, nice people, not crowded at all, fresh water pool, good food and drinks. Lots of chairs, tables, hammocks. Kayak rental, you can snorkel and even scuba there. Good luck!

We took a taxi (bus)from the pier for $3 per person. Then when we got to Mahahaul, right where we got off the bus, we took a taxi to the resort. It took 15 to 20 minutes, but was well worth it. Nothing we saw on the way out there compared. When you get out of the taxi the owners meet you at their "front door", we had pre-booked, so we paid our balance and went on in. You tell the taxi drivers when to come back and get you, then the owners call to make sure they are on their way at that time. We really did have an excellent day, very relaxing. Do as much or as little as you want.

Can you snorkle form the beach at Maya Palms, or do you need to go out in a boat? Thanks.

Thanks, that's great. Could you tell me what you thought of the snorkeling? We thought the snorkeling in Cozumel was much better (more fish/more colorful) than in St. John's on a previous cruise. On our upcoming cruise we are headed to Grand Cayman and Costa Maya, I'm wondering which would have better snorkeling.

Grand Cayman will have better snorkeling. The snorkeling at Shipwreck reef or Cheeseburger reef is pretty good, both accessible from shore. In Costa Maya, you have to take a boat ride out to a reef away from the shore

We just came back last week from our cruise and we spend a day at Maya Palms. Doug the owner said to post on cruise critic that taking the taxi outside the main area will save time and money. Maya Palms is beautiful. It is a perfect day to relax and enjoy a private beach. The owner, Doug and chef Pedro go out of their way to make it a wonderful day. There were only 11 cruise ship passengers there that day so we had the whole place to ourselves. Pedro fixed a delicious lunch. My son who is 15 took his first scuba lesson. They have a dive master there and also snorkeling off a boat was offered. We booked directly with Maya Palms. You can google their web-site and we called their toll free phone number and received lunch in our price unlike if you book through Costa Maya excursions. Just make sure you bring your own towels as they charge $5 to rent them for the day. Also, don't pay the taxi driver till he returns for you at Maya Palms but they will tell you all this when you book with them. :)
