Amsterdam to Ghent- private car transfer any suggestions?

Hi we are getting off river cruise in Amsterdam and want to go to Ghent/Brugge for a few days.

looking for

a private car (4 adults with luggage) that will drive us to our hotel.

any suggestions?

The difficulty is the distance and that some taxi's just don't want to cross the border. It will be pricy as well. Its 2.5 hour drive, 135 miles/220km. 220 km times 3 euro per km = 660 euro one way as a guess.

What about the train? Just one transfer in Brussels? ~50 euro per person?

 

Rent a car? The roads from Amsterdam to Genth/Brugge are very straightforward. If you have a car you can also visit Knokke for a walk near the beach and dinner or lunch. Same for Antwerp, really nice to spend a few hours. Be aware that Antwerp is really bad going into town by car.

Right now Uber is quoting €300 for a standard car but you’d probably need a minivan which is nearer €500. A private limo transfer would be even more.

Renting a car or train plus local taxi. I would not pay an excessive amount (because it will be and it is) to sit in the discomfort of a regular taxi for nearly three hours. 

 

I haven't read anything indicating mobility challenges so I guess the luggage hauling might be a fear but..

 

Plan your train trip. Book your train tickets. Head to the Amsterdam Centraal Station, use the escalator or elevators, buy a soda/beer and a bag of chips, board one of the high(er) speed trains; the Intercity Direct or Eurostar train, store your luggage in between the seat back to backs or luggage racks and sit back and relax. Your views of the landscape passing by will also be better than other cars/highways.

The last leg is on a regional Belgium train in most options, using the balcony and staying with your luggage to avoid logistical challenges.

One point worth remembering is that reserving seats is not possible on Belgian trains, unless you happen to be part of a (very) large group.
