Hello

Can anyone tell me if you are able to get free wifi on a cruise, we are wanting to go on the msc in july 24. My grandson has Type 1 Diabetes and has to use his phone to get blood glucose readings to then put into a pdm machine so his pump can release insulin into his body, this all has to be done with 24 hour wifi . The cost is so expensive I dont think we could afford to go on the cruise if we had to pay for the two weeks wifi as he is a child and needs this to exist , does anyone know if there is something you can get to allow us to get some money of the cost . Thankyou

Hello @surrmanther and welcome to the Cruise Critic message boards!

Thank you for your first new thread on the Cruise Blogs & Websites forum. However, it was off topic there. The forum is for Cruise Critic members to post links to their personal travelogue-type of cruise-related blogs or websites.

To help you out, your new thread has been moved to the MSC Cruises forum where it will be on topic. The majority of your fellow Cruise Critic members that have sailed MSC and familiar with the Wi-Fi on the ships frequent this forum and provide feedback here. Browse through the thread titles on this forum looking for threads of interest. You will probably find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you. You also may also want to research our Cruising Technology forum for information regarding devices, apps, provider services, etc. We also have the Disabled Cruise Travel forum for you to research too. It is the forum where cruisers with physical limitations share their advice and experiences.

The Cruise Critic website and message boards are both great resources for new as well as experienced cruisers and we are so glad you found us! Please feel free to browse the Cruise Critic Community categories list of the various forums. I suggest you Bookmark the page or put it in your Favorites for easy access in the future. Please read a few threads in the different forums to get a feel for what each forum is about. Make sure you read any pinned threads (aka Stickies) on the top of the first page of threads in most forums. You will find very important instructions or information there.

Please remember the following portion from the Guidelines we all agreed to follow when registering for our free Cruise Critic memberships:

Browse Before You Post
Browse a topic first to see if your question has already been asked or answered by someone else. Also, many of the major cruise lines forums have a FAQ (Frequently Asked Question) topic that has been created by our members. Give that a try first. Browsing is your #1 best resource! Please post your messages in an appropriate topic so that you'll receive the best possible response. It is very time consuming to move misplaced messages that are in the wrong topics.

Anytime you need to start a new thread on a forum, first make sure you are in the correct forum for your topic. Word your new thread title in a way to help the members know exactly the information you seek. This greatly helps the members browsing through the thread titles and if they know the information, they will post replies to you.

Also, it is best to limit each inquiry to only one topic such as one cruise line, one ship, one port of call, etc. and of course, on the correct forum. You will get more replies that way. Be sure to mention your cruise line, ship, sail date or port in your message if that sort of information will help your fellow Cruise Critic members answer you.

You need to find and post on the Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship and sail date. That is where you will find fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with youPlease read What is a Roll Call? Everything you Need to Know and How To: Create A New Roll Call. For more information about our famous Roll Calls, please read the Roll Calls and Our Policy Regarding Facebook and Roll Calls sections in the GuidelinesWe also have the following Cruise Critic article you might enjoy8 Reasons to Join a Cruise Critic Roll Call

The specific Cruise Critic Roll Call thread for your ship, line, and sail date is the ONLY place on the Cruise Critic message boards where you and your fellow Roll Call thread members are allowed to post personal ads about sharing private tours, excursions or transportation with each other to save money. There is a "captive audience" there since you are all sailing together! Your fellow Roll Call thread members may have important information posted in your Roll Call thread. Especially those that may have sailed your line, ship or itinerary before. Also, they may have already posted share requests that may interest you. Roll Calls are for Cruise Critic members on the same cruise. They get to know one another on line before their cruise so there will be all kinds of discussion in the Roll Call thread for their cruise!

Once you locate the Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship and sail date if one is already created, first read through the whole thread to get to know the other Cruise Critic members sailing with you. Then use the dark blue Reply to this topic button to join the Roll Call by posting an introductory post about yourself on the Roll Call thread. When done with your message, click the dark blue Submit Reply button.

If you want to address a particular post already in the thread, be sure to use the Quote feature on that post as I did yours above. That way all will be aware of what your post concerns. Click the Quote function on the post you want to address. When the Message Reply box opens, the quote appears in a box at the top. You type your message UNDER the quote box. When done with your message, click the dark blue Submit Reply button. If the member you quoted has used the Follow feature on the thread, they will get a notification that you have replied to their post.

If a Roll Call thread for your specific line, ship & sail date has NOT been created, please feel free to create it! Just follow the directions in How To: Create A New Roll Call. Please make sure you use the complete alpha date format for the sail date in the Roll Call thread title so the Find your Roll Call Search Tool can work correctly. Example: January 01, 2025. Then sit back and wait for your fellow Cruise Critic members sailing with you to join in by posting on the thread. They will appreciate you starting the Roll Call! And don't worry about any responsibilities in starting a Roll Call thread. Roll Calls belong to everyone; there is no designated leader or owner. It does not matter who started the thread.

Since you are in the UK, please make sure you research the following forums:

UK Cruisers

The Pub

Europe Disabled Cruising

If you ever need technical help in regard to using the Cruise Critic message board software, go to the Need Help Using the Forums? Check Here! forum. You will see a large amount of "How to..." pinned threads toward the top of the forum's first page. Also, browse through the threads in the forum looking for threads of interest. Again, you may find your fellow Cruise Critic members have already posted questions and received answers that may be of interest to you.

So sorry this is so long, but I sincerely hope this will be helpful to someone new to posting on our message boards. We are glad to have you aboard Cruise Critic!

Happy sails,

Host Kat

What do you believe the cost to be..? ... and where are you cruising from?

Getting a single device plan shouldn't be prohibitive, so I'm wondering if you are looking at the right prices and perhaps just looking at the single-day rate x 14?

  • 2 weeks later...

I recently sailed on the Meraviglia. A woman that met on the ship had the same issue with her insulin pump. She went to the front desk on deck five and spoke to them right after embarkation. It took some back and forth, but they eventually made it work, for free.

Personally, if I were you, I'd get it set up before you board the ship. MSC has a form on their website that to can filled out before your cruise for disabilities and medical accommodations. That probably would be the easiest way to get your grandson what he needs, for free.
