For sale on board??

A friend who is currently on the Spirit said that the ship is selling:

a) artwork

b) pre-owned Chanel and LV merchandise?

All the boutiques on Silversea and most other cruise lines are run by LVMH.  Among other things, they own Louis Vuitton. So, yes, they are selling all sorts of expensive used LV, Chanel, etc. as well as pre-owned Rolexes. They are responsible for everything boutique.  Everything.

The designer handbags are all preowned and provided by a company called What Goes Around Comes Around.  The preowned handbag market is huge especially Chanel and Hermes because their retail distribution is so limited and it’s actually easier to buy pristine pieces with tags on the preowned market than in a Chanel or Hermes store.  And yes, the artwork is also for sale.

Did this start with the RCCL takeover? I've been on over 20 Silversea cruises and never noticed this. I'm not surprised if I missed the sale of the used stuff but I think I would've noticed artwork for sale!

I’m CASHIPman’s husband. To quote our friend:

”They’ve got prints of the masters, Dali, Renoir, etc., framed and for sale in the $2 and 3000 range for sale all over the ship.  Tacky things like that.”

This is really disappointing to hear.

Back in the early days of SS cruising they did sell artworks. here is one of the discussions on CC.

The preowned purses are now being sold on the "new" Crystal. Not the art. The operator is the same. Also true for the spa, called One Spa World, formerly Steiner.

The art cheapens it significantly. Can’t believe there isn’t more of a reaction.

All we can do is refuse to buy anything and hope they decide the cost of managing the inventory isn’t worth the meager sales.
