American Eagle in New London CT

Recommended Posts

I could not find a board for American Cruise Lines, or the American Eagle ship,

It is a mess of a photo but the river is wide here and under the circumstances this is the best my phone camera will do. The photo shows part of the waterfront in New London, CT, USA.

The American Eagle is a small coastal cruise ship operated by American Cruise Lines, She is a twin hulled vessel that accommodates 100 passengers and is a 73.5 meters long with a beam of 17 meters. The current itinerary is called the Yankee Seaports Cruise.

American Eagle is the boat on the other side of the pier - stern out to the river. All the other boats are various ferries with routes to Block Island, RI; Fishers Island and Long Island, NY.

The two masted schooner with the dark hull on the near side of the pier is the replica of La Amistad which was built nearby and used in the movie "Amistad" starring Morgan Freeman, Anthony Hopkins, and Matthew McConaughey which was based on the 1839 revolt aboard the Spanish slave ship. Back in 1839 the original Amistad was first brought into New London after the revolt.
