Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #802 Share Posted July 15 The tallest mountain in Nuuk Kangerlua is 1600m. From Nuuk, the best view of the fjord is from this brown building you can see on the side of the hill. What is the brown building, you ask? It is the prison for all of Greenland and it currently houses 83 inmates. These white globes are for Starlink for Nuuk. Nina said many people think they are igloos. They are not. We are back in Nuuk harbour Just as we arrived back at the harbour our captain heard over the radio that one of the other tour boats used for the same excursion we had just enjoyed had broken down. A rescue boat was sent to retrieve the passengers. Yes, we were delayed leaving Nuuk.

julia Posted July 15 #804 Share Posted July 15 Loving this review! I'm sure the skilled mute Captain is highly adept at skirting the floating ice, but... has he ever struck one?? Asking for a Friend...

I spent over 4 months on her for the 2023 World Cruise. I will be on a sister ship, the Caribbean Princess cruising Iceland and Greenland the first week of August. What do you recommending for dressing for what I expect will likely be cold and damp. Have you been warm enough outdoors? I live in Southern California and not a good cold and wet weather person I admit. Looping back to this. Keep in mind I am Canadian and am used to the cold. I have been to Iceland, Norway, Alaska, the Yukon and to Churchill Manitoba to photograph the polar bear migration in winter. Never in my life have I been as cold as I was yesterday in Greenland. I wore a cotton base layer, a Nike dry wick long sleeve second layer, a fleece third layer and my thick winter jacket as a 4th layer. I felt like Randy in A Christmas Story! My pants were lined with fleece, my socks were outdoor double insulated and I had a wool toque. None of this was enough. My biggest mistake was not packing the sheep’s wool toque I bought in Iceland the first time I was there. In the morning I put on eyeshadow. When I returned to the ship before the afternoon excursion I no longer had eyeshadow on-it was that windy! That said, the locals were wearing shorts and t-shirts. 5
Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #806 Share Posted July 15 Toward the end of our boat trip I asked Nina if there were any vegetarians in Nuuk since such it is a meat- and fish- based diet. She said yes, she has a friend who is vegetarian. At this point I could see the captain’s shoulders start to shake. He turned around to me and said, “I knew a vegetarian once. They died!” Then he had the biggest chuckle ever! 1
Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #807 Share Posted July 15 I was so cold that once I was back on board the Island Princess I kept my toque on. Happy hour was so fun and I tried Coco Café and Aperitivo Roma during the Good Spirits at Sea Cocktail Experience. I loved them both. Note the bartenders were wearing hats indoors too.

I have just viewed your photos of the icebergs and earlier the whales. AMAZING! Thank you for getting back to me, I needed the info. In a way I am now hoping we get diverted to Nuuk also. We will see what happens at that time, still more than 2 weeks away. You have got me sooooooo excited! I have a fleece lined beanie, not a toque and another knitted beanie. I will bring both and see if they help. I also ordered hot hands from Amazon. I have some Isotoner winter gloves. The pants may be my issue, here we don't need "heavy" pants, but plan to bring the fleece I do have. I did locate what will be my first layer yesterday, still new in package I had bought some time ago for a cold weather trip sometime. They are cuddle Duds. Phew, glad I found them. Continue to have a great trip and thank you for your thread here. I leave a week from tomorrow, staying In London a few days prior to cruise

It sounds like you are well-prepared. Maybe wear two pairs of pants (leggings underneath other pants?) Maybe you will have warmer weather. I think we just hit an exceptionally chilly day. Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #810 Share Posted July 15 Did you know that Stephen Schwartz, who wrote the music and lyrics for Wicked, has written three production shows for Princess? Last night we were treated to Motor City! Wow!! I was so swept up I forgot to take a photo until the encore bow.
Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #811 Share Posted July 15 I don’t know what else I did last night. I know I kept my toque on and I know I had fun. There was a midnight iceberg sighting.

arizonaperson Posted July 15 #814 Share Posted July 15 3 hours ago, wallyj said: @bob&france, I am pretty sure Crab Shack is NOT a casual dining option as on all my past sailings with this pop up the cost was $39 plus 18% gratuity. SaltyDogGastroPub and Alfredo’s pop up ARE casual dining venues on THIS ship. Other Princess ships may have Alfredo’s and SaltyDogGastroPub as standalone venues. I believe Ruby and Emerald have SaltyDogGastroPub in section of Wheelhouse, but is only open for dinner service. Agree about crab shack-specialty. Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #815 Share Posted July 15 (edited) Sea day I am determined to wake up early enough to enjoy breakfast in Bordeaux at least once this cruise. Today was not that day. The bed is just so incredibly comfy it is hard to extract myself come morning. My first meal of the day was brunch in Bordeaux. There were so many items I wanted to try (street taco, grilled cheese, mac and cheese) but I’ve been eating a few too many (delicious) carbs these last few days so I ordered the passion fruit yoghurt parfait I had to pull some raisins out of the granola so I got my bicep curls in for the day and the Farmer’s omelette without ham. Look at this light and fluffy omelette! I spent the rest of the morning ocean gazing and writing I wish they would be specific about the arts and crafts in the Princess Patter. It is so popular that passengers need to secure a place 30 minutes in advance. Today I sat and waited for 30 minutes and what did Amber pull out? An origami butterfly. I sat for thirty minutes for a folded insect then went to the bar Lepidoptera-less. Origami is not my thing. There were two hurricanes today! One on starboard side and one at Good Spirits This afternoon I took a break from relaxing to do some lounging then I read my book When I saw all this ice I used cruise mapper to figure out where we were. As suspected it was Qaqortoq. At 5:32pm the officer from the bridge announced there was a large iceberg port-side and we should check it out. He also mentioned it was two miles away! Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #817 Share Posted July 15 So there I was, walking by the dining room. The dinner menu caught my eye. Frog’s legs!!! I just can’t. In my mind I picture all these frogs just sitting there, legless and unable to hop about. 2

With the soups, the type of broth (vegetarian, chicken, beef etc.) is always indicated. Thank you for sharing. This is wonderful news! I wonder when this started? I hope it is this way across their entire fleet. If you have time and you feel like it, will you please share some of the signage?
Norwegianprincess Posted July 15 #819 Share Posted July 15 Amazing photos of whales and icebergs! The photos of you with the icebergs really shows your joy and happiness, they made me smile. I must confess I’m a little envious of the thought of you getting more Omnom chocolate in Iceland, and maybe some of that lovely licoriq, too 😉 I may have to go back to Iceland soon…
Rare YVRteacher Posted July 15 Author #820 Share Posted July 15 @MsSoCalCruiser No problem! In the meantime here are photos of the offerings in Horizon Court for Scandinavian night. I have had more variety in these 11 days on Princess than in all my 14 years on NCL. 11

If you don’t, Omnom delivers… I remember you showed me your liqorice last year and I went and bought the same kind.
