Marella Discovery 2 - Cabin choice

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Wondering if anyone can help with some cabin questions.

We are looking at booking a cruise on Marella Discovery 2. Either booking a delux balcony cabin at the very aft of the ship on deck 6 or 7, or a standard balcony close to the coffee port on deck 6.

Does anyone have experience of either of these types of cabins? We would prefer the aft cabin because the balconies (I think) are larger, however I am worried about engine noise and vibration.

I know when we sailed previously on Explorer people said the aft cabins experienced lots of vibration when docking. I am wondering if the mid ship option would be better.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks all.

Good morning.

Our two favourite cabins on both Discovery ships are 8086 and 8076. Can recommend them both no vibration that we found troublesome however our last cruise on D2 in 8086, that's stern, we did have major issues and couldn't use the balcony, it was a one off and would always go for the stern if we ever go again it's a great position. They did give us a full refund voucher. Enjoy your cruise.😃

We were on Discovery in May. It has the same deck plan as Discovery 2.

This is what I wrote in my diary about our aft deluxe cabin on deck 6. We were very happy with the cabin.

Cabin 6124 - deluxe aft balcony.
  • The cabin is spacious and is one of the renovated cabins.
  • All the aft balconies have an obstructed view.
  • The balcony was quite large with 2 sun loungers, 2 chairs and a table.
  • The cabin has a sofa (high enough for me to sit on!!!), a double bed with a nice lightweight duvet and fluffy pillows.
  • Each bedside cabinet  had a lamp and a charging station for iPads etc.
  • There was a hostess tray, hairdryer and a good amount of storage space.
  • The bathroom had a shower cubicle with a glass door! There was ample storage and the bath towels were a great size for a change.
  • The TV has a very limited selection of programmes..
  • The safe is small.

Just returned, cabin 6022.starboardside  4 cabins from stern .

Stern cabin veranda is large and appealing, great views etc. We felt some vibration in our cabin. So expect that at stern.
Perhaps a higher deck stern cabin, budget permitting.?
Dining room was underneath us too,  very occasionally noisy.

We had a short walk to coffee port, which houses a little library too.

Up one deck to 7 for water dispenser .

Personally, I would go for a cabin about half way up.

Enjoy your holiday!
