Fees for cash from the casino?

poetic license

Recommended Posts

I've never been charged a fee for getting money from the casino on any of my four Celebrity cruises, but would like to know the experiences of others who've sailed on Celebrity. Another post complained they were charged a 12% fee. I just find that hard to swallow.

Has anyone been charged a fee? Or have your experiences been like my own? My last Celebrity cruise was in January, so my experience is relatively recent. Next cruise is April on CENTURY, where I expect the 'no fee' policy to still be in place.

Hi Poetic !

Unless something has radically changed in the last week, its not the case. We were on Century a week ago, and had no problems at all getting cash at the Casino, with no extra fee.

As for the possible 12 % Fee ? (although I do not feel there is a fee) here is a thought.... the $$$ is intended to be used in the Casino. I suppose they could charge you a fee IF they feel that you are not using the money for Casino purposes. I do not feel that happens much, if ever.

Frankly, I would not worry about it.

I have never heard or paid a fee on Celebrity for getting money from the casino. I would like to know who got charged 12%? Princess does charge 3% which blows my mind. Has anyone ever gone to a casino on land and been charged for cashing a travelers check? It is about the same thing. If casinos want us to play their silly games they should make it as easy as possible. I love to play those silly games and the casinos love to take my money. NMNita

When I was on the Summit two weeks ago, there was no charge from the casino cashier to take money out. You can take as much as $2000 a day from the casino cashier with no fee. But, there is a $5 transaction fee for taking money from the ATM machine that's in the casino.

No fee for the $$$ I got while on board.

What I'm trying to angle for is for the Elite Captains Club - they waive your charge account fees at the end of the trip. What a cruise it would be then. ;)

Waive charge account fees? I'm sorry but I don't understand. Can you clarify?

The only way I figure someone could've been charged that kind of fee is if they used their credit card (instead of their onboard card) and got a cash advance against it.

Michele

Michele, Even if you use a credit card, Celebrity will charge is as if it were a tangible good rather than a cash advance so that guests do not incur cash advance fees.

What made me start this thread was the claim of another poster who was plainly disgruntled about their recent cruise, and probably embellished the story further by complaining of having to pay a 12% for getting cash in the casino. I KNOW that Celebrity doesn't have a fee, and so I asked the question in a separate thread. So many people read and BELIEVE these tales without question. My point is really this: Please don't take everything you read on any forum as thoroughly gospel. By the way, here is that post, (heavily edited, too; you'll get the idea) which was buried in another thread:

We are back from our 10 day cruise to Mexico on Celebrity's Mercury. What a terrible disappointment. .... Apparently the ship was "sick" from the last cruise. We could not access our staterooms for several hours as

they were being cleaned.... By this I mean spraying with bleach. ... Wherever you went, they were spraying. ... They sprayed the dining room chairs just before the doors opened and we all wound up sitting in bleach. ... The buttons in the elevators would not light as they were all burned up. Many people ruined very nice clothes ...They were lined up at customer relations to get refunds of their ruined articles of clothing. ... Lines were 15 - 30 minutes long for the Palm Springs Cafe, the grill and waffles. The midnight buffets were all canceled. Salt and pepper shakers were removed from the tables. You could not get your own juice or coffee, again you had to wait in a line for it to be poured by one person manning. ...The ATM machine (the only one) in the casino was out of order the entire cruise. If you wanted cash from the casino, 12%. They would only allow one check for $200 per cruise at the bank.... Our cabin steward was a most pleasant man, but the carpeting in the cabin (and all over the ship) was tattered and torn, as was the bedspread. Seams ripping.........They closed the Manhattan room, (which on this ship was the only dining room) for breakfast and lunch a couple of days so EVERYONE was up on deck to eat at the Patio. I thought the activities were very limited....We did get back to the Manhattan for breakfast yesterday. No bananas, no danish, no eggs benedict, several other things not available. ...In Puerto Vallarta we were #2 for the tender. We spent over an hour waiting for our number to be called and then headed for the dock. We were almost there, and then told to pull back to so a craft belonging to Princess could deboard. We spent another hour just in the tender............ There were absolutely no compensations for any of the inconveniences, no apologies. Only bleach being sprayed non-stop.. .... about 1800 other folks will be writing Celebrity with our complaints.... So naturally we'll be steering clear of Celebrity. The food was ok, but nothing like we were told to anticipate.

Just trying to alert folks to read everything critically before changing their plans or panicing, which seems to occur a lot lately.

Cheers~

Nicki,

This one keeps coming up. Carnival charges a 3% fee. They eventually put it on Princess too. May have it on all their brands at this point. All reports are that X has resisted the band wagon so far. I'm sure we will hear loud and clear if they change their mind!

As to the individual who said otherwise, care must be taken when collecting information and facts as given by others need to be checked carefully.
