I've read several times not to book the last cruise before repositioning.  Why?  I believe we did once, many years ago on Eclipse and we had a great time.

I have never read that. However the first cruise before dry dock and the first out of dry dock should be avoided because they will start work on that cruise and be finishing anything they couldn't finish.
