Numbers already booked

Hi all.  Does anyone know if there's an easy way to tell how booked up a particular cruise is?  The only way I can think of is to do a fake booking on select price, up to the point where you get to choose a cabin, then count all the available ones.  On the new enormous ships that could take all day!  Just wondered if there's another way to tell.

No and that doesn’t work either because you have no way of telling how many guaranteed cabins have been booked. One day you look and there is lots of availability, next day all  sold out of some grades as the guarantees have been allocated. Had this happen to me several times.

That information will never be made public as it is too commercially sensitive. No cruise line is going to announce to the world that it is not selling any cabins on any cruise.

Cruise lines, just like hotel chains, will often release availability in batches. This creates the false impression that there is limited availability. It’s a marketing ploy to encourage bookings. Once those are booked, lo and behold, another batch appear. TAs can look up all cabins individually, but I don’t believe that they can easily see a total picture either. Availability is a constantly moving target with so many factors at play it is impossible to know.

And on Azura, her routine business in summer is 7 and 14 day cruises from Malta, P&O assign some cabins to the 7 and some to the 14 day version. In winter from Tenerife she also offers Friday and Saturday departures for 7 and 14 days, so some cabins are allocated to each of the flavours. Same must happen for caribbean cruises that offer 7 and 14 day departures from Barbados and Antigua. And yes, this is such commercially sensitive information that they would probably add extra tricks to make it difficult to work out.
