Lloyd Posted April 10, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 10, 2006 I highly recomend Andrew. Our group of 6 visited Budapest in May of 2005 at the start of a Uniworld river cruise. Andrew met us at our hotel with a driver and van and gave us an excellent day tour. The afternoon before he met us at the Airport and took us to our hotel. Here is his web site: http://www.angelfire.com/band/guide/
Bobblsc Posted April 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted April 25, 2006 I don't think you need a guide in Budapest. There is an excellent subway system which will get you anywhere you want to go on the Pest side. You can take a bus tour of the Buda side for a very reasonable price. Watch the taxi drivers. Many will cheat you if given half a chance. If you are staying overnight, you can get from the airport to your hotel by van at a good price. If you are staying for a night or two, go to the opera at the old opera house. It is beautiful and the prices are amazingly cheap. You can book on the web. Be sure you go to the State Opera House, not the other, although the other also has very good productions. Bob :p
jgnova Posted April 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 25, 2006 I definitely agree about going to the State Opera House. You can find out what's there on their website and book for an evening that is of interest to you. We saw three Bartok pieces there. It was pretty much sold out so all 4 of us had separate seats (got them while we were there) and they weren't in wonderful locations, but it was a fantastic experience -- Bartok in Budapest -- WOW! And a great performance. S
