Splendour docked in cozumel

Recommended Posts

Just off Splendour this am. Pier was open in Cozumel, walked right off the ship. Three other ships were tendered. Food in King and I better than expected. Excellent service everywhere. Windjammer didn't look good and had bad smell. Aft JS balcony does not open to adjacent. Won $500.00 at Bingo. Casino dealers are great. Dress for formal only about 1% tux, 30% jacket, rest very casual, lots of jeans. Third night was country so again mostly jeans. Over all experience better than expected!

We're just off the Splendour today also. Embarkation and debarkation were the easiest I've ever seen. We were in our cars this morning driving home around 9:30. That was even after shuttling 17 people and luggage on EZ Cruise.

Docking instead of tendering was WONDERFUL!!!!

Also just off the Splendour today. (Hi Julie! Sorry we missed you!) It was our first RCI cruise, and it won't be the last! Everything was great--embarkation was a breeze. We did the Travel Lite self-disembarkation, which was somewhat difficult as the gangway is right in front of the King and I entrance and the elevator banks. I got stuck on the elevator because there was no room to get off! Finally had to just push my way off. :D Once you get past the scanners, it was a breeze again. Very organized, unlike the Port of Houston, which was mayhem when we sailed on Norwegian from there.

Loved being able to stroll off the ship in Cozumel. The food was good, the service (with the exception of our ho-hum cabin steward) was excellent. And, I'm not sure how or why, but we were chosen to dine with the Captain on Friday night, and then he invited us to join him on the bridge on Sunday morning! Obviously, we are much more glamorous than I thought, or else he had us confused with someone else. :D

We met some really great people on this cruise, too. Our tablemates were just wonderful, and we made some friends at the Captain's table as well. Oh, and btw, the Splendour's First Officer is model-handsome and absolutely charming. I have named him First Officer McDreamy. :D Actually, the Captain wasn't bad either...

Almost no kids on this sailing--maybe 6 or 8. Lots of teens, mostly girls, on some sort of a choir trip. They were VERY well behaved, however, and kicked bootay at karaoke. We encountered no chair hogs, and even on sea days, the Solarium pool was fairly quiet. Had a couples massage on Friday. Very nice, but I think the massage room is located underneath the shuffleboard deck. Hard to relax when you keep hearing "WHIZZZZZZZ...thump thump thump! LOL! I hope the newer ships' massage rooms are built a bit more soundproof.

Yikes, this is turning into a trip report! Anyway, like I said, this won't be our last RCI cruise. We were very impressed with everything beginning to end!

We just returned from the Legend and were lucky to be the first ship to use the piers at Cozumel. Were were told by our CD Gavin that Captain Olsen received word that the pier had been cleared for ONE ship, first come first serve. He hauled tail and beat out 5 other ships. It's still pretty beat looking. I will be posting pictures in the next few days.

We were on Rhapsody last week, and the pier is open on the outer side only. Only one ship can tie up and they have replaced part of the pier with some temporary ramps (wide). The hurricane literally beat the concrete out of the rebar!

It looks like it will be some time before the piers are fully repaired. No one was working on them last Friday.

The Rhapsody used local, two and three deck tenders, and tendered right at the foot end of the pier, just before it goes onto land. They have mostly repaired the buildings around the end of the pier and they are open for business. The small pharmacia that was located at the end of the tier, had both its rear and front walls washed out and they were laying concrete block to repair it. It was amazing the progress that Cozumel has made in repairing the storm's ravages. Downtown is newer looking and cleaner than it was pre storm. We had a great day in Cozumel.

We were on the Splendour a week ago and had to tender in Cozumel. Lucky you guys got to dock! The pier is just a mess, so much damage to the area makes you sad...but they are happy happy to see tourist and such a friendly bunch of people there. We miss Hans the head waiter in King and I, Benice the bartender from Jamaica and of course our waiter Ruben. At least we have 70 degree weather coming here this week...

Who was the captain...Capt Oerjan or Capt Yngvar.

Capt. Oerjan Man[something unpronounceable]soy. He told me he has only been Captain of the Splendour for about 7 weeks.

Which also brings up a question: Why is he sometimes listed as Capt. Orejan Man... and sometimes as Captain Man...Orejan? He explained it to a table mate, but I couldn't quite hear the explanation.
