JackieH Posted April 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted April 24, 2006 So how many diapers do you take with you, well for those who have kids in diapers when you cruise? Our youngest will be newly 2 when we cruise on the Valor this coming August. I would say she goes through 5-6 diapers a day.In 7 days, that is about 42. BUT, I need to figure in a lot of extra's in there for dift things. So how many diapers do you think a 2 yr old will need for a 7 night trip??? Or if you have cruised with a 2 yr old, how many did you go through, if you can remember. I know it may seem like a silly question, just something I thought about this morning. Kerry's Girls Posted April 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted April 24, 2006 I brought a jumbo box (approx 155 diapers) for each of my babies. Better to bring some home with you stuffed in the outside pockets of your suitcase than take any chance in running out. One of the mothers on the ship I was on ran out the final night - not a great situation to be in needless to say. If you're flying to the port, you'd be surprised how many can fit in the outside pockets of all your suitcases. If you're driving, just slap a luggage tag from the ship onto a box of diapers and check it with the rest of your luggage. Have fun! We are actually flying into Ft Lauderdale the day before and driving down to Miami. I think we will be able to fit lots of diapers in. My husband is good with creative packing.;)
bld16 Posted April 24, 2006 #4 Share Posted April 24, 2006 Take 2 times as many as you think you'll need. I learned from experience. We vacationed in the Canadian wilderness when my children were 1 and 2 . Both got the dreaded D__________- and quickly ran low on diapers. Had to let them go bare bottom for a few hours at a time after they got better, to save on diapers! Made it back to civialization with only a few diapers to spare! Now that was a learning experience! Julienatul Posted April 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted April 24, 2006 I am cruising with my 7 mo old this weekend for 7 days and I am bringing the jumbo pack, I think its 68 or 74. She goes through about 7 a day so 49 plus extras would be about right. Its better to be safe then sorry. Although I have been scoping out supermarkets/grocery stores in the ports we are going to. I am sure the staff on board could direct you to the stores they use in port just in case you run out of something. Julie
I&MsMom Posted April 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted April 24, 2006 I agree, it's better to have extra. I'm not sure I'd double my estimate though. You can get them in a lot of ports. Admittedly, you don't want to spend a ton of time on port days searching for diapers! LOL When we fly to the port, I buy them there, rather than adding weight on checked luggage. I always pack an extra tote or duffle, which gets loaded with diapers, wipes, soda, water, etc. As all of these items are used during the cruise, I use the bag to ship home dirty laundry, leaving room in the hard-sided luggage for souveniers. I always fill an over-sized ziplock with a change of clothes, small container of wipes (or wipes in a smaller ziplock) and about 6 or so diapers. Mark it with child's name, age, and cabin number. Hand it to the counselors the first morning, and they return it on pick up the last night on board. They'll let you know if they are running low. We had a last-minute change in itinerary, which gave us a sea day instead of a port day. I was concerned I didn't have enough diapers to make it to the next port (in the end, I was fine). I asked the purser if any were sold on board. They said no, but the camp had a supply, if I was desperate. They said they also thought some were kept in the infirmary. One last point, I don't know if you use them, but I swear by Huggie's overnight diapers. Even though they only go up to size 5, they fit DD at 2. I always use them when we are flying, boarding, etc. Any time I may not be able to get to change her for awhile. HTH, and enjoy your cruise! CeleBrat Posted April 30, 2006 #7 Share Posted April 30, 2006 I am glad to say that our latest cruise (March--Costa Mediterranea) was our first DIAPER-FREE cruise! Before that, though, I always planned on 7 diapers per day for each child, plus (1) package of SWIMMIES. We never had a problem. I always packed the diapers in our rolling carry-on, and when they were gone at the end of the week, we had room for all our souveniers! Don't worry too much about diapers--remember, they are also sold on-board. CeleBrat
Kerry's Girls Posted May 2, 2006 #8 Share Posted May 2, 2006 I wouldn't count on diapers being available on board. They are usually very expensive and extrememly limited in sizes and availability.
bangzoom6877 Posted May 3, 2006 #9 Share Posted May 3, 2006 We are traveling with our son on the Norwegian Spirit on July 22nd, and he will be 18 months old at the time. Usually he goes through about 7 diapers per day so we will probably bring enough for 10 per day, for a grand total of at least 80 diapers for our 8-night cruise. We will also bring those swim diapers for the beach in port. I don't count on buying diapers on port or on the ship because they might not have what I want, I don't want to spend my vacation searching for the right diapers, and it is just more convenient to already have them on me. I am not checking them with the luggage though. We will carry those on...better safe than sorry! We are also bringing twice the outfits that our son will need in case of accidental soiling of clothing. Also probably 10 pairs of pajamas or so. Baby clothing is small and a lot of it can fit into a small suitcase. We went to Niagara Falls a couple of weeks ago with the baby, for a total of 4 nights, and our stuff and the baby's stuff all fit into one large suitcase. My husband and I will probably fit all our stuff into the large suitcase and fit Philip's stuff into a smaller one. Bonnie
