Pearls in Isla Margarita

Does anyone know if the pearls sold from the vendors at Isla Margarita are real? How can you tell? What is a good price for them if they are acually genuine?

Well, not really sure it they are real or not, but the couple of strands we got when we were there in March are pretty nice. The vendors all took a lighter to the pearls to try to set them on fire and that's how they said they were real. We got short strands for about $8 and real long strands for about $20. Not sure on the prices but around there anyway. Just wish I had gotten a few more!
