Mariner of the Seas photos

Recommended Posts

I'm new to cruising and will be taking my first cruise next month aboard the Mariner of the Seas. CruiseCritic.com has been a fantastic resource to learn about cruising and meeting new people, but I wish there was a centralized way to see other people's cruise photos.

So I created a group of Flickr -- a photo-hosting web site like Photobucket and Webshots -- just for those who have travelled on the Mariner of the Seas.

It's free to sign up for a Flickr account if you want to share your photos. Or just visit the site without signing up just browse the photos.

Here's the URL: http://www.flickr.com/groups/marineroftheseas/

I will be aboard the Mariner of the Seas on June 4, so I will post my cruise photos while on board and when I return. In the meantime, I'd love to see your photos. :)

Cheers!

Hi Taminator,

I'm also new to cruising and will be taking my first cruise next month on MOS on 6/11, the day your cruise ends.

Are you as excited as I am? :D

I also plan on posting a review and pictures after my cruise. This website has been a great resource, and it's great to see others looking forward to their cruise vacations, too.

I'm definitely getting excited! Making last-minute purchases and checking off things to buy and pack.

I created the Flickr site in hopes that there will be one centralized place to see everyone's photos from the Mariner of the Seas instead of having to visit several different web sites.

The people in my Meet & Mingle group will be posting their photos from our cruise and I'm encouraging everyone else who has ever been on the Mariner of the Seas -- not just the June 4 sailing -- to share their photos on the Flickr group as well.

Is the June 11 sailing on the eastern side of the Caribbean?

  • 3 weeks later...

A few of us from the Meet & Mingle aboard the June 4 sailing of the Mariner of the Seas have started posting our cruise photos:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/marineroftheseas/

If you have been aboard the Mariner of the Seas in the past, please share your photos with us by uploading them to the Flickr group so that we have a centralized location for all the images.

As everyone sorts out their digital and film cameras, we'll be posting new pictures probably every day. So keep checking the Flickr group regularly and we'll let you know when there's been a major update.

Cheers!

Thanks so much for creating that site to view pictures. We are going on Mariner and love looking at pictures of the ship etc. Also, thanks to all who have posted pics on the site.

Just seeing some of the pictures made me wish we were going tomorrow!

I'm still editing through a lot of images and it makes me wish I was still on board! :p

I think we've got almost 300 photos on the Flickr group right now and people are posting more each day. I'm hoping to get 1,000 photos when it's all said and done.

Which itinerary are you sailing -- Western or Eastern Caribbean?

We are doing Eastern. We have sailed the Caribbean many times, but never on the Mariner. Even though we have been to St. Thomas and St. Martin previously, they are two of our favorite islands.

I will have to keep checking the site for more pictures. Thanks again.

You are going to love the Mariner! It was my first cruise and now I think I'm so spoiled I doubt I could cruise aboard a smaller ship. There was just so much to do and she is beautiful inside and out. Half the time I forgot I was even on board a cruise ship. :p

I chose the Western itinerary because I wanted to see Cozumel, Jamaica and Grand Cayman. I was thinking next trip would be the Eastern side but a few veteran cruisers said it wasn't as good because they thought the ports were boring.

Your thoughts?

Good Pics. We will be on the Mariner July 16.

I see from your pix that you stayed in #1238, which is Deck 10 forward.

We are staying in #1260, which is also Deck 10 Forward but to the right of the elevators.

What can you tell me about that location?? Can you feel much of the Ship's movement, noisy from Deck above? etc, etc.

They aren't boring to me at all. St. Thomas is a beautiful island and if you use Godfrey for a tour, you will get to see a lot of the island. After the tour he takes the passengers to a beach and it could be Magen's Bay or Coki. Both are great beaches. Last year we went to Sapphire Beach but I heard that now the restaurant and lounge are closed and that there aren't any bathrooms, so that beach is no longer an option for us.

St. Martin has both the French and Dutch sides. We are going on a tour of the island this time as previously we just shopped and went to casinos. We will also go to a beach, probably Orient Point. I think any island could be boring if that's your attitude. We have enjoyed these islands and look forward to going again.

I hope you get a chance to do the Eastern and decide for yourself. I hope that we will still like the smaller ships after the Mariner as we are going on the Serenade to Alaska and that's a smaller ship. Oh well, we shall see.

:)Taminator - Thanks for the great photos.

katiel53 - Hi Katie. Met you on the elevator after the M&M on the Apr7/06 PC sailing. Thanks for setting up that M&M on the BOS. We met some great people. We arrived late so did not meet all. Saw you in the concierge lounge after dinner a few times, but did not linger as our boys were waiting in the room. Anyway, we too are going on the MOS eastern soon. My boys are excited to try the larger ship. Take care!:D

Thanks, B-52!

We had the option of Deck 8 aft or Deck 10 forward when booking the cruise. I was a little nervous afterwards because I found out that you feel more motion the higher the deck you're on and if you're forward or aft. I'm happy to report that we were quite pleased with our balcony cabin and its location. If you get somewhat motion sick like I do, make sure you bring some Bonamine and start taking it at least a day in advance of boarding the ship.

It's true that there is more motion in the aft and forward sections of the ship, but it won't affect you if you're taking Bonamine. For the most part, I was impressed with how stable the ship was and you soon get used to the motion. All in all, it was fairly minor except for one night towards the end of the cruise when it was very noticeable as the weather was rough and we were getting chased by Tropical Storm Alberto.

I think we had a great location. On the starboard side of Deck 10, if you lean over the balcony a little bit and look aft, you can see a portion of the bridge. You can often some of the bridge officers standing there with binoculars and waving to you. It was convenient where we were, too, because the stairway nearby takes you right up to the Solarium adults'-only pool area. We also found it convenient to attend shows at the Savoy Theater since it was seven decks down aft. And getting to the Windjammer was a nice stroll up one flight of stairs and then walking past the pool area to the cafe.

As for noise, I was concerned about being so close to the elevators and the stairway but we were around the corner from both and didn't notice any excessive noise. We were directly under the fitness center and did not hear any noise from above either. Your cabin is under the Solarium -- most of the lounge chairs there are in fixed places, so I don't think you'll hear too much from above. The only noise you may hear is music from activities on the pool deck when your balcony door is open but I thought it was minimal.

I think you'll enjoy your cabin like we did with ours. We wouldn't hesitate to book another cabin in the same area next time. I hope I answered your questions and let me know if you have any more. Cheers!

Katie, you make the Eastern Caribbean itinerary sound very enticing. I'm all for exploring new places so I'll consider the Eastern side next time. We did a lot of excursions -- practically one in every port -- last time and we ran ourselves a little ragged do that, so we vowed that next cruise we would take it easier.

I imagine white-sand beaches and crystal-clear water dominate the Eastern Caribbean, too, and I can handle that. Probably the best day we had on our cruise was in Cozumel where we did a snorkelling tour in the morning and then laid on the beach with a bucket of beer in the afternoon. I remember thinking that life doesn't get much better than this.

Is your Alaskan cruise sailing out of Vancouver? I'm in Vancouver and it's a great city -- see if you can take a few days to explore the place; it's well worth it.

PandTO: You're very welcome! Thanks for checking out the pictures.

PandaTO,

Nice to hear from you again. We thoroughly enjoyed our Panama Canal trip. I would go again in a NY minute. Unfortunately, I didn't get to spend time with the Cruise Critic people as our family pretty much spent our time together. The Meet N Mingle was nice I thought.

I'm sure we will enjoy the Mariner. We are in aft cabins on this cruise so I hope that I don't feel the motion too much. It's nice to hear from you.

Taminator,

We are hoping to spend some time in Vancouver. Tomorrow I am going to start checking to see if we can get frequent flyer airline tickets for our trip. I would love it if we are able to. I don't know if we will have to go to Seattle and then take RCCL transportation or if we will be able to fly directly to Vancouver. If we are able to go directly to Vancouver, I might have to ask your advice on some hotels near the pier if you wouldn't mind. It's a bit early to do that planning. Need the airline first.

I could spend my whole life planning and going on cruises.

I think the RCCL ships dock at Canada Place, which is in a great location downtown. I can definitely recommend some hotels in the area. Just let me know what your budget is and I can work with that.

And remember that while the U.S. dollar isn't as strong as it used to be, it's still a deal to spend those American dollars here in Canada.

What a small world!

And, yes, our Flickr group for the Mariner is doing very nicely.:)

As a matter of fact, I just posted more food pictures to my own Flickr site. Added some photos from the midnight gala buffet.
