kingsrx Posted May 24, 2006 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2006 We are on a Med Cruise next month and taking my daughter (biological daughter) with us. We have passports but we have a few questions for being out of the country. If we have passports do we need our Driver's Licsense? What about birth certificate? Can we bring copies or must it be originals? Since I was remarried since DD was born, are they going to question that I am her biological parent? Are they going to request a document from her *real* parents? I am sure I am not the only with a different last name from my daughter, but it bothers me because once we get out of the country then I have no way to get anything, but I should have every right as her mother to bring her and should not need extra documentation. Any thoughts are appreciated.
Krazy Kruizers Posted May 24, 2006 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2006 Even though we have passports and do take them onto the cruise ship, we always lock them up and use our driver's license as extra photo ID in the ports. Birth certificates - must be the originals - not copies.
TurboBunny Posted May 24, 2006 #3 Share Posted May 24, 2006 I think there is something that you have to have stating that you have her father's permission to take her out of the country. Check with the passport office or maybe the consulate.
wrp96 Posted May 24, 2006 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2006 If you have a passport, you don't need to bring your birth certificate. In fact, in Europe your birth certificate won't do you any good. Still bring your driver's license (it's always good to have a backup photo ID) but since you are in Europe plan on using your passport first, not your DL. cherylandtk Posted May 24, 2006 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2006 Its not clear to me - what do you mean by *real* parents? Is your daughter your legal daughter, or just biological? She will need notarized permission from both her legal parents to travel (some cruiselines only need one if that parent is traveling with her). Here is just one example: http://boards.cruisecritic.com/showpost.php?p=5940185&postcount=
ebrener Posted May 24, 2006 #6 Share Posted May 24, 2006 Your passports are all you really need, but I do the same as Krazy Kruisers. Don't take them to ports, take a DL and maybe a copy of the passport. Also, an original birth certificate may be useful if you "misplace" your passport in port (if you decide to take it).
