Barcelona Metro question

Our group will be arriving via cruise ship for one day in Barcelona. We are planning make our 1st stop La Sagrada Familia. Afterward, we plan on visiting Barri Gothic and Las Ramblas areas for an afternoon of wandering.

 

My question involves using The Metro. Can anyone provide directions as

to:

1) What will be the best way to get to the ship to The Metro station.

 

2) What metro lines will we need to take to get to La Sagrada

Familia?

 

3) What Metro line will we need to take to get from La Sagrada

Familia to the Barri Gothic area?

 

4) After our time wandering Las Ramblas, what will be the best

way to get back to the ship?

1) The port shuttle bus leaves you near the Columbus mounument at the end of Las Ramblas. You go up in Las Ramblas some 50 meters and you will find at your left "Drassanes" metro station on the Green Line "L3".

 

2) The station for the Sagrada Familia is called "Sagrada Familia" are on the Blue Line "L5" and Violet Line "L2". So your shoul change from the Green Line to the Blue Line at Diagonal Station which is very near of "La Pedrera" from Gaudí.

 

3) The metro stations of "Barri Gotic" are "Liceu" on the Green Line "L5" and "Jaume I" on the Yellow Line "L4". Your may take the Violet Line "L2" at "Sagrada Familia" to "Passeig de Gracia" where you may take the Yellow Line "L4" until "Jaume I". As "Passeig de Gracia" station is 300 meters from the Cathedral you may also take a walk to Plaça Catalunya and then Avinguda Porta de l'Angel where you will see the Cathedral on the left at the end.

 

4) At the end of Las Ramblas, at Columbus mounument you have the Port Shuttle. In any case, taxis in Barcelona are not expensive and, if you are tired, can conpensate. That in case you ship is docked at "Moll adossat" as in case is besides the World Trade Center, you can easily walk.

You can purchase a one day pass ... you can also purchase a 10 ride ticket that can be shared with others in your party. Both are very reasonable. In October the 10 ride ticket was around $6.80.

I have a question... In the case of a T-10 (10 ride pass), every time you exchange lines to reach your final destination, Does that count as several rides or a ride is from point A to your final destination in point B?

In almost all cities the on off buss the best to get around and see the sites. Ther loads of fun but sit on the sop deck.

When you transfer lines within one station, you do not need to go through the turnstiles again. Thus, your journey to your final stop is one ride. BTW, we were very impressed with the metro system in Barcelona, one of the best in the world.

If you purchase the Lonely Planet city guide to Barcelona, there are maps with the metro lines clearly marked. The metro system is outstanding. It is much cheaper (the T-Dia was 4 euros last summer) and quicker than the super crowded HOHO buses we saw people lined up half a block trying to board.

In Barcelona in one ride you may use both metro and bus. You have 1:30 hours for your ride. You will not be charged again when you change the metro for the bus while you are going in the same direcction.

 

The public system uses red buses. There is a private system which uses the blue color which are off the public system but you have only two: one from the airport to city centre (Plaça Catalunya) and other which follows the purchasing zone (Plaça Catalunya, Passeig de Gracia, Diagonal).
