Houston Airport to Galveston...hired drivers?

Are there drivers to hire in Houston to take you to the port and then back to Houston after the cruise? We will be getting in a day before the ship leaves, but need to get to the port from Houston. The shuttle is so expensive for a family of six. Does anyone know if there are folks that hire out to drive people to and from Houston? I'm thinking of just renting a car and just leaving it at the port parking lot for the week. Does anyone else have something that worked well for them? Thanks so much!!

There are tons of drivers in the Houston area. I found for my cruise last December through Cruise Critic. If you email me at wrpierce at sbcglobal dot net I'll give you his name. He came highly recommended to me by somebody else on these boards and he lived up to the recommendation.

We left from Galveston, this past Christmas season and used Celebrity transfers. We had to wait quite a long time for the busses to arrive at the Houston airport because of delays clearing the ship. People we knew who were on the same plane as us, rented a car at the airport and headed over to the port. They got there before us and stated it was quite an easy thing to do. The fee for renting the car was very inexpensive getting to the port but back to the airport was more. I am certain it would be a lot less than you would be paying in transfer fees.

 

I believe they used Enterprise. If you do a search on the Celebrity site, you may come across the thread.
