Guest Speakers on Celebrity?

I've heard that on Celebrity ships, special guests are often invited to speak on different topics.

My wife and I will be going on the Galaxy this summer and we both love to learn new things.

Does anyone know what guest speakers are often on Celebrity cruises?

Thanks for the info!

And on our recent Celebrity Cruise one of the speakers was a doctor who gave vabulous lectures on eating and other related lifestyle changes for a healthy heart. His material was wonderful and he took the time to answer everyones questions. In fact, on the last day of the cruise he spent the entire session answering questions.

John Maxtone-Graham was a speaker on our Millie TA several years ago.

He spoke daily on his experience with crossings versus cruising.

Best speaker we've heard on a cruise.

When I was on the Zenith last summer (to Bermuda) two B-list Broadway actresses were on board. They talked about their experiences and gave a couple of acting workshops. LOADS of fun - and they were very gracious, too. Have no idea what their names were, though :(

Very cool!

Sounds like they have an eclectic list of speakers.

Questions: How well attended are these seminars? Are these seminars usually pretty interesting? Does every Celebrity cruise have guest speakers?

On our recent Trans-Atlantic on the Millennium, there were three speakers. The big theater was almost filled to capacity for the speaker on current world events and the speaker on composers (Kern, Berlin, Porter) who also played their music on the piano. The art history lecturer was wonderful, but, unfortunately did not attract a large crowd.

We would have liked to hear an interesting port lecturer. Many passengers want to know more about the ports than where to shop!

The quality of these guest lecturers is a big incentive for us to continue to sail on Celebrity.

While on Summit in Jan./Hawaii, we also attended the 3-day lecture on the composers, Kern, Berlin, & Porter...I agree, it was excellent! It was SRO...

We had an interesting speaker on a recent repositioning cruise, who spoke mostly about myths and legends of the seas--everything from mermaids to pirates. He also spoke about the history and culture of each of the ports where the ship called--although he admitted never having visited any of them before!

Just about every Celebrity cruise has at least one guest lecturer and X's guest lecturer program is really eclectic - on our many X cruises we've seen motivational speakers, handwriting analysts, caricaturists, destination lecturers, an estate planning expert, a steamship historian, financial experts, a former CIA operative, and the list goes on and on. Some speakers have been wonderful, most have been good and others left something to be desired but X's program in general is quite good.

The schedule for the enrichment program is listed on the Celebrity website. It has all of the dates and who will be lecturing.

Very good.

Thanks for this info. :)

I looked at this website and, saw this Guest Speaker

sailing on the Millenium in August.

If anyone will be on that cruise, make sure

to go meet Ike Pappas. I had the wonderful experience

to meet him once and, he is a great guy to talk with and,

listen to. He can tell some great stories, for sure.

Journalist / Producer - Ike Pappas - Aug 18

Journalist, producer and executive Ike Pappas began his professional life as a New York radio reporter and continued on to become an award-winning CBS News correspondent, covering many of the major events that shaped global history from the 1960's to the present.

During his 25-year tenure at the network, Pappas was seen on the "CBS Evening News" with both Walter Cronkite and Dan Rather, reporting nightly on events ranging from the battlefields in Vietnam to the Six-Day War in the Middle East, as well as the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. He has covered the U.S. Space Program, the CIA and the Defense Department as Chief Pentagon Correspondent. He also served as Congressional and Labor Correspondent.

Pappas has portrayed himself in four motion pictures, including Moon over Parador with Richard Dreyfuss, The Package with Gene Hackman and Matinee with John Goodman.

Last May on the Millie TA Ernie Borgnine (and wife Tova) did 4 lectures on his life, movie career and spoke about other actors.

He also shared his experience winning the Academy Award for Marny. He also answered questions about filming the Posiden Adventure.

It was very interesting running into a Best Actor winner when walking around the ship and interacting with him. For 83 years old McHale is still looks healthy.

The schedule of guest lecturers on X's website is incomplete and includes only those whose names are easily recognizable. The majority of lecturers aren't necessarily well-known but for the most part, have a lot to offer.
