davie Posted June 6, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 6, 2006 My wife and I are booked on the Volendam for the Fall Panama Canal Cruise , leaving on 9/30/06. We are arriving in San Diego on 9/29 and would appreciate advice on lodging for that night. Also, if the hotel provides shuttle service from the airport and to the port. jhannah Posted June 6, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 6, 2006 If you stay at the Holiday Inn right across the street you won't need a shuttle! Reserve early to get a bayside room and you can sit out on the balcony and watch the ship come in! Just be sure you get the Holiday Inn On the Bay. The Holiday Inn Bayside is not across from the cruise terminal.
sweet sheep Posted June 6, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 6, 2006 Holiday Inn by the bay is directly across the street from the pier. You can actually walk across with your luggage if you are real careful. The hotel does have a shuttle to and from the airport. You can actually see the airport from the hotel also. San Diego is a great place to visit and the seafood is great. Visit the carrier Midway if you have time as it is also in plain view of the hotel. If you cannot get a room at Holiday then you can contact the Hampton Inn Downtown.
Krazy Kruizers Posted June 6, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 6, 2006 We have stayed many times both pre and post cruise at the Embassy Suites right on Pacific Highway. They provide shuttle to and from the airport and will drop you off at the pier on their way to the airport every hour on the hour. The hotel is within walking distance of Midway, Seaport Village, Horton's Plaza, and The Fish Market. If you get a room on one of the top floor facing the terminal you will be able to see the ship sail in.

duck tune Posted June 10, 2006 #6 Share Posted June 10, 2006 Best Western Bayside Inn has also been recommended by several cruisers we've met. We are trying it out in December.
Suite 16 Posted June 11, 2006 #7 Share Posted June 11, 2006 We have stayed at the Hampton Inn Downtown, about two blocks from the pier. It is reasonably priced, and breakfast is included. They have a shuttle from the airport, and to the cruise ship pier. Clean and nice sized rooms. If you book, try to get room(s) in the front of the building, overlooking the bay, the tall ships, and the cruise ship pier.
