Birthday Recognition

Recommended Posts

My boyfriend will be celebrating his birthday on the first day of our cruise and I filled out that info on my reservation on the RCI website. What does RCI do to celebrate birthdays if anything? This will be our first cruise (4-night on Sovereign) and I was just wondering.

Thanks in advance for any feedback!

Hi!

He will get a cake and happy birthday sung to him in the dining room. Be sure they waiter has the info that it is his birthday. Have a great cruise! I am sure it won't be your last as they are addicting! LOL

Hi:

The two cruises that I was on last year only placed a candle in the dessert you ordered. If you want a cake, you have to pay for it.

You might want to inform your waiter that evening that it's your boyfriend's birthday.

Hope both of you will have a wonderful cruise and your boyfriend will enjoy his birthday.

You can order a lot of things that aren't under the gifts and gear page. I always get onboard credit or casino credit and neither one is actually on the gifts and gear page options.

Your TA can order the cake for you or you can call the 800-722-5443 number and they will order the cake. I "think" if you booked your reservation online, the birthday cake thing actually comes up when you reserve, but don't quote me on it. The "cake" is $7.95, however, if you just let your waiter know you are celebrating but don't want a cake, they will put a candle in any dessert of the night for free. Oh, and they probably won't want to do it the first night. That evening is kind of chaotic with getting people to their tables, introductions, etc. If you really need this the first night, try to talk to the Head Waiter early in the day or immediately before dinner. Happy Birthday!

We just got off of Radiance, and on the first formal night the head waiter brought us a piece of cheesecake with a candle and an edible card that said Happy Anniversary. He announced to the area it was our anniversary, and told everyone they were going to sing it 25 times! Thank God it was only once. It was a nice touch, and a nice surprise for us.

I would recommend the candle in the desert option. I celebrated my birthday on our last cruise, and my husband was sweet enough to order a cake for me. It was just WAY too much food, and I felt bad because all of my tablemates felt obligated to eat a slice of cake....we were all stuffed. In the future, I would much rather just have a regular desert with a candle in it. Just something to consider!

That's exactly why I asked because there is no where on the RCI website under GIFTS AND GEAR where I can order a birthday cake that's why I was wondering if something special is done.

It will be under gifts and gear as a "special occasion cake". I ordered one for my DH for the Rhapsody 7/9. I believe it was $7.50. They will write whatever you want on it as long as it will fit (it is only a 6" cake).

hello

the cakes are definately available to order online gifts and grear. they are 7.95 and are very yummy. The decorations are very nice and are well worth the 29.00. Happy planning !

By the way the decorations will be all installed when you enter your cabin!

I agree, the decorations looked nice. We didn't have them, but one of the suites by us did, and when the door was open I remember thinking "Wow, I didn't realize they set them up. They really look nice." There was stuff hanging from the ceiling and it looked very festive.

If you want them to sing and recognize the birthday at dinner you have to make sure your waiter or matre'd (sp) knows. Our documents also stated that we were celebrating my bday but DH didnt tell anyone so singing happened (which isnt a big deal to me and would have embarrassed him).

Unless you order the special cake, they will just put a candle in the dessert your boyfriend chooses. Since there is so much food, most people are fine wth that.

Enjoy :)

Thanks everyone for your feedback. It was really helpful. I would have never thought to look under Stateroom Decorations for a cake on the RCI website.

Has anyone had the cake? Is it any good?

Will the decorations be too much for a regular inside cabin?

What if your birthday is not actually during the cruise. Its my mum's 65 next year about 10 days before the cruise. Can we still order the cake and have a celebratory dinner for her???

No problem. The reason they stopped including whole cakes with candles and decorations at no charge was because so many people would lie about it being on or near a birthday/anniversary/whatever. All week long, you would end up with hundreds of renditions of "Happy Birthday" and the like.

This is, of course, only my opinion. RCI didn't really announce a reason to my knowledge. I can tell you that it got ridiculous to have hundreds of people trying to score "free" cake. (Sorry, I must chuckle over that. The notion of lying about a special event in order to get cake on a cruise ship! Right...because there's just not enough food available and certainly no cake. )

DH and I celebrated our 22nd anniversary on Brilliance of the Seas last summer and we received a congratulations letter from the Captain when we boarded. That was it - nothing else was done.

DH did have the cabin decorated and flowers delivered which was a nice touch. However, I would have thought something would have been mentioned at dinner.

This did not spoil our cruise so I'm not complaining - - just stating the facts.

There is a section under Gifts and Gear for a cake. Under the Gift/Gear select the category Decorations and then you can select birthday things from there.

We have a cake ordered for our son for his 18th birthday. We are having it delivered on the 18th. We had an option for dinner or in-room delivery, We also ordered a room decoration package for him as well.

Hope this helps!

Have a great time!

How did you get a congratulations letter from the captain? We are taking my sister on her first cruise in celebration of her 50th birthday. We would love a congratulatory letter from the captain as a souvenir.
