Glacier bay..Portside or starboard?

On our May 2006 Volendam cruise the Captain spent an hour or more in front of Margerie Glacier - portside faced the glacier - and then turned the ship so that the glacier was on the starboard side for awhile before leaving the bay. We spent most of our time on deck. We had a starboard cabin so when the ship turned we went down and enjoyed leaving Glacier Bay from our balcony.

We just returned on the Westerdam. We had the same experience. The captain "parked" for an hour port side, then turned the ship and "parked" for an hour starboard. We had a starboard cabin and also enjoyed the view from our balcony.

I wouldn't worry about which side you pick for Glacier bay. For these two hours I would recommend going out on the deck where many of the passenger's will be for the best views. Many times there is someone on board to explain the area so it's nice to be around there.
