karen of PA Posted June 25, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 25, 2006 Do you normally tip extra for room service even if the tip is supposed to be included in your final bill? If you do, how much do you usually give the waiter? Thanks, karen of pa
Pam in CA Posted June 25, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 25, 2006 If the tip is included, I don't tip extra unless the service has been way beyond my expectations.
Toto2Kansas Posted June 25, 2006 #3 Share Posted June 25, 2006 If you mean the $10 pp per day, that does not cover room service staff. Yes, if you tip at least a couple of dollars for room service, depending on what you order, it is definitely appropriate!
smeyer418 Posted June 25, 2006 #4 Share Posted June 25, 2006 The room service staff is not included in the fixed per day amount. It is customary to give a dollar or two for coffee and acpntinental breakfast or more for a full meal. If the person bringing it is your regular room cleaner(which has happened to me), a extra tip is not expected. Since room service is not charged for extra(unless you order booze or soda, a small amount is the custom....some people don't do it and some people remove the tips and don't leave anythimg the cheap so and so's. jlp20 Posted June 25, 2006 #6 Share Posted June 25, 2006 One of those "extra" things I pack is a small stack of one dollar bills. That early morning tray of coffee and bagels gets the server $2.
smeyer418 Posted June 25, 2006 #7 Share Posted June 25, 2006 and please don't use $2.00 bills. They are NOT normal and the crew has a hard time getting rid of them. ditto with Susan B Anthony coins..they will think you are giving them quarters.... suitelover Posted June 25, 2006 #8 Share Posted June 25, 2006 On our last cruise with the DAWN we spoke with the PSD (hotel manager) and he told us, that the room service is included in the automatic tip (10$ pp) and that there is no need to tip additional. smeyer418 Posted June 25, 2006 #9 Share Posted June 25, 2006 This is from Princess's answer book "During your cruise, you will meet our staff in a variety of locations who provide you with excellent service. Many more crew support those who serve you directly. For your convenience a discretionary Hotel and Dining charge of $10 per passenger per day (including children) will be added to your shipboard account on a daily basis. This charge will be shared amongst those staff who help provide and support your cruise experience, including the wait staff, stateroom stewards, buffet stewards, galley staff, laundry staff and others. Please note this is a discretionary charge and should you wish to remove or make any adjustments, you may do so by contacting the Passenger Service/Purser's Desk onboard. Casino dealers and Lotus Spa personnel do not share in the Hotel and Dining charge as not all passengers utilize these services." It is ambiguous enough to include room service--live and learn thanks to the Poster above...I will still tip but that is me..
jingels Posted June 25, 2006 #10 Share Posted June 25, 2006 The way I look at it is that room service is additional to the "normal" expected cruise experience. I, too, agree that the one or two dollar "thank you" is appropriate for this "extra" service.
