Carnival Secrets they usually don't tell you about

Not sure if this one has been brought up - and this thread has gotten so long - and quite frankly I can be lazy at times - with that being said............

On the Conquest class ships (not sure about other classes) the couch has drawers built in underneath. We didn't notice them until the second to the last day. They would have been great for shoes and toys.

On formal nights, I always dress up for early dinner then change back to regular clothes afterwards. We've taken a couple of Celebrity cruises and while it's never happened to me, I've heard of many people being told they should stay in their formal clothes for the shows, etc. I don't know if they were also told the same thing about bars or the casino or such. Sounds like a pretty silly policy to me.

I think ship personnel more chided people than actually forbade them to enter. And, I know for sure they said something to the people going to shows. I'm sorry but I'm not into wearing heels and hose for 6 hours - I'm gonna get comfortable!

I've never heard of anyone doing this on other mass market cruise lines (Carnival, RCI, Princess, Norwegian). But, then, they may do it on the top-end lines - who knows - I don't hang out on those boards but I have hung out on the other boards.

I will tell you this, this Carnival board is the friendliest board I've been on - Celebrity tends to bad-mouth everyone, RCI does it less but still does it and so does the Norwegian board. And, this board tends to have the most activity so it's officially my favorite.

Lots of people choose not to attend the dining room on Formal night - but opt to eat on the Lido deck. So to expect everyone to go to shows in their best duds relly is unreasonable. Personally I like to dress up for dinner - but when I leave the dining room I head right back to the cabin and get comfortable.

Best to get a lanyard from the casino cashier, and they will also punch the hole in it. [much shorter line than at the Purser's desk] You can also join Ocean Players Club at the cashiers cage. [no charge]

I bet if you go gambling, you know "Gold Strike" or "The Grand".....the cards that you use to keep up with your gambling and the perks they give - a lot of the gambling places give you a lanyard type to hold the card on....that would work great for the s&s cards.:o

I was reading one of the posts here about the Cruise Critic logs on the ships. Anyone know where the one on Conquest is located?

As for tea time on Conquest-is that non-smoking? What about piano and karoake times-non-smoking or not?

Thanks,

Debi

I read in a post about needing a bungee cord for cabin slider in balcony room. I've booked my first balcony room on Conquest for 5/1/05-what is a cabin slider?

Any know if Conquest bathrooms have an electrical outlet?

Thanks, Debi

The Conquest doesn't have "sliders" on their balconys, the (heavy glass) door opens out. If you bring a standard bungy cord about 2 feet long, you can hook one end to the door handle and another to the balcony divider and keep the door open. Great sleeping with the sea air and sound of the waves.

Kids- Camp Carnival will have lots they can do and more

Don't forget the power strip and extension cord, only one outlet in each cabin.

There is a mini-refrig in every room as well. Have the cabin steward clean it out so you can put your beer in it.

If you eat at the late dining there's a good chance you won't be able to see all of the shows.

The Conquest also has/had people hawking the Carnival Vacation Club pretty hard. Sit through a 10-15 minute presentation, look a bit attentive and get a free 2-1 airline coupon (buy 1 for $350-Companion flies free) as a reward! Get on the list early as it fills up once folks catch on.

A quick hint about buying pictures. The ships tell you that they will not scan for reproduction, but they will. I don't even have that great of a scanner and the pictures I purchased came out great. So, buy one really good one and make copies to give to friends and family if you want to share.

Wow! I have finished reading all the posts in this thread, great tips! I will be sailing May 7, 2005 / Glory / Western Caribbean. This will be my sixth cruise (all Carnival), and I can't believe how much I didn't know. Thank you to all who shared. I wish I had some new tid-bit of my own, but everything was covered. All I can add is: may your cruise be all you expect it to be! Enjoy yourself. Let the staff do what they are trained to do: pamper you. You'll have the time of your life!
