Hey! Jude Posted June 30, 2006 #1 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Just wondering, has anyone collected them all. Which ones are from each port and which one is your favourite. Mine - definitely the sandals! I got my first bracelet through the cruiseline 5 or 6 years ago. I noticed recently that people getting the bracelets get a DI charm at the first stop but you get a different one if it was your second/third port. How would you get them all unless you got a new card?
MissKise Posted June 30, 2006 #2 Share Posted June 30, 2006 what is a DI ?
Hey! Jude Posted June 30, 2006 Author #3 Share Posted June 30, 2006 The cruise ships gives you a card that you bring to a Diamonds International Jewelry store at each port. The first port you start at you get the free bracelet and a free charm with the initials DI. They stamp your card at each port and give you a different free charm. You can bring this card on later cruises to continue collecting.

LittleBit Posted June 30, 2006 #7 Share Posted June 30, 2006 I got the free sailboat, then bought an extra one for a friend for $5 at the port. Cute, but nothing to write home about... I never got any card about it though - was just a coupon in a booklet/ you can buy them all at once too http://www.shopdi.com/search_quickshop.cfm?by_cat=true&by_mat=true&details=true&product_id=15361&search=true they have fancier versions you can buy too. waterbound Posted June 30, 2006 #8 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Ive only been on RCCL once but didnt get the charm.. But when I first started sailing with Carnival you could get a sticker and then go to a place in Cozumel and they would give you a little silver charm that said the name of the ship you were sailing on.. I collected those till they stopped doing that.. I was bummed cause I wanted to collect as many as possible.. I think I got 4 before it stopped.. I didnt realize you could something like this when on RCCL.. We will be on RCCL later this year, so I will check it out..
Nanatravel Posted June 30, 2006 #9 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Wow, I never knew about this. Thanks for posting. Emmy, we too will sail Freedom next. I am going to look into this souvenir. I would also buy one for my Grand daughters. Bon Voyage Nanatravel
wolfcathorse Posted June 30, 2006 #10 Share Posted June 30, 2006 I think you start out by buying the Discover shopping guide and using the coupon at one of the featured stores to get started. The first one costs $5 then the rest are free. DI stands for Diamond International. It gives me a reason to cruise to all the ports! I wish I had done it last year in Alaska now that I've started the Caribbean ones. See, here's the reason the promo works...now I have to go back to Alaska!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hey! Jude Posted June 30, 2006 Author #11 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Hi MyMugsy - I do not see Bermuda as one of the ports. There are 20 in total Antigua,Aruba,Barbados,Belize,Cabo San Lucas,Cancun,Costa Maya,Cosumel,Juneau, Key West,Ketchikan, Las Vegas,Mazatlan,Nassau,Playa Del Carmen, Puerto Vallarta, Skagway,St Lucia,St Thomas. It is just a fun way to collect a small souvenier from the places we've visited. I don't really wear it since the gold will wear off. I have never bought any, just picked up the free one. unless you count the other things I found in the jewelers so I guess I did spend money - he he. Bren's Mom Posted June 30, 2006 #12 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Las Vegas is a port now...when did that happen?!?! LOL!!! (I can only assume that there is a DI there?)
CABCruiser Posted June 30, 2006 #13 Share Posted June 30, 2006 All you need to do is fill out a card you receive onboard, usually at a shopping talk. Present it to DI and get your bracelet. I did this last year on Carnival, and didn't receive a little card to be stamped. This year on our RCI cruise, I merely showed the bracelet at the shops and they handed me the charm. At the shopping talk, they distributed the same card for first timers. I did see people with their little stamp card in the shops, but I was never asked to show one. I think its just a fun reminder of our trip. We are going to Vegas soon, so I'll add that charm. Imagine, "Free Jewelry!"
Hey! Jude Posted June 30, 2006 Author #14 Share Posted June 30, 2006 The coupons are handed out to you as you leave the ship or else you can find them where the information brochures are - again as you leave the ship. I have never paid for any of mine. You can ask the shopping embassador for a coupon. They are usually advertised in the daily compass as well. I keep my coupon in my "travel" wallet so I always remember to bring it.
Eileen G Posted June 30, 2006 #15 Share Posted June 30, 2006 I was just on the Statendam in Alaska and the card was in our stateroom along with all the other shopping info. I got a totem pole in Skagway, a bear in Juneau and a salmon in Ketchikan. We'll be doing the southern caribbean on the Serenade in Dec and I plan on adding one in every port. I did have to pay 5.00 for the first one but the rest were free. It's always fun to get something free.
csk Posted June 30, 2006 #16 Share Posted June 30, 2006 They are fun to collect, I have them all except Las Vegas, and Ketichican. We just returned from Alaska, but did not stop in Ketichican.
cruisin4kicks Posted June 30, 2006 #17 Share Posted June 30, 2006 Below is a link to all the Diamond International locations... http://www.shopdi.com/locations.cfm?by_cat=true&by_mat=true&page=main When we were on our Alaska cruise, we got a Diamonds International "check off sheet" for the charms for all their different locations. Below are the charms we've accumulated so far... Alaska cruise - Juneau, Skagway, Ketchkan Bahamas cruise - Nassau Southern Caribbean cruise - Aruba Western Caribbean cruise - Key West, Cozumel Las Vegas Cruise - Rio Hotel and Casino Eastern Caribbean cruise - St Thomas, St Maarten I don't think you can get charms at all the Diamonds International locations. We still need to book a cruise to the Mexican Riviera to pick up a few more charms. Tim

Freedom Cruiser Posted July 1, 2006 #20 Share Posted July 1, 2006 My DH and I each got one in Key West for our DD's in 2004. We have since cruised once with the girls and are sailing the Freedom in December. Both girls still have theirs and are planning on taking them on the Freedom to add to their collections. It is a fun activity for them and they have a nice little reminder of our vacation! It also is a great way to get my husband to go into DI in every port! Steamboatin Posted July 1, 2006 #21 Share Posted July 1, 2006 Pardon me but I just do not understand the concept of "free". You spend a minimum of a thounsand or in most cases multiple thousands of dollars on a cruise including airfare and all the extra costs associated with a cruise. Now you get to go to a port of interest in a foreign country and instead of seeing that port, island or countryside you waste your day going to get this "free" charm from a retail chain store. Now tell me after a cruise you have seen the inside of "x" number of Diamond International stores and nothing else. You just spent thousands of dollars to travel to that store to get a "free" charm. Now please explain to me how that charm cost you nothing and is truly free.

All the Diamond International stores are really no more than a 10 minute walk from the ship so I don't think anybody "wastes their day". The first thing my wife and I do is get the "free" charm. We then have the rest of the day to do whatever I guess you and everyone else does when you arrive at a "port of interest". Now tell me after a cruise you have seen the inside of "x" number of Diamond International stores and nothing else. You just spent thousands of dollars to travel to that store to get a "free" charm. Now please explain to me how that charm cost you nothing and is truly free. I get the impression you're having a problem with the word "free". I don't think anyone is going to argue with you that cruises cost money. Different people have different agendas on cruises. I'm assuming there are people that like to get some kind of keepsake of all the ports/locations they've been to. It really is not that big a deal. Some people will go to Senor Frogs or Carlos and Charlies for lunch when they're at port... some people will go to DI and get their charm. Personal preference. We have 10 charms from all the different ports (plus Las Vegas) on a charm bracelet. If we ever cruise to the Mexican Riviera, we're hoping to add 3 or 4 more. Believe it or not, we actually do more at ports than collecting our "free" charms. Oh, and to the other poster that asked what charm you get at Key West, it's a sailboat. I am not into buying tons of souvenirs, so the "free" charms are a perfect idea. Annieeee
