Drinking Age has Changed, EOS 7/28

Recommended Posts

Just wanted to share that a friend of mine who boarded the Explorer today just called me and said that the drinking age on board has indeed changed to an unconditional 21+... no more waivers.

Hope this info helps.

Edit: My bad, didn't see the big drinking age thread still on page 1.

She said nothing about any casino / disco changes, and she almost certainly would have noticed that. They still have the one/two hole punch system in place for under 18 and 18-20, presumably to aid the staff in judging 18+ for casino and disco, as usual.

This is a great great thing. I am not for the legal drinking age of 21 here in the USA for some obvious reasons. The problem is if you get a bunch of 18-20 who are probably not used to drinking in public like a normal human being you are going to get a bunch of messed up and out of control children. I witnessed it first hand on EOS just last week. The kids were rocked and getting really really naughty in the disco and other places. I can only imagine what would have happened if their parents had seen them. American kids are just not used to drinking in a public area and most of the come off looking like idiots when they are smashed and act foolishly. Again not for the 21 drinking age here in the states but it is what it is and these kids on these ships are just not experienced enough to be able to drink like an "adult".

This can be a good thing.....however, it really boils down to the person who is drinking and knowing when they have had enough. Not just on ships....anywhere....college, parties, wherever, you need to be responsible. Easier said than done when with friends and having a good time

I hope RC enforces this new policy. ;)

Gambling is legal at age 18. Here is the catch if alcohol is being served on the premises then you must be 21. Since most casinos serve alcohol it is then illegal for an 18 year to gamble.

By the way most 18 year olds in this country dont know how to control their drinking because we dont let them drink. If they could it wouldnt be a big deal and they wouldnt go out and drink like pigs. Actually that being said most people 21 to say 24 have no ability to control their drinking either.

I pretty sure that you are wrong. The gambling age in the U.S. (or at least Louisiana) is 21 even if they don't serve alcohol.

They serve alcohol in the casinos on the ships. How does this play into the equation?

It doesn't. U.S. law doesn't affect these foreign flagged cruise ships, unless they're in Alaska where there are different regulations.

The only thing that has changed is the drinking age. All the information we have recieved reflects the fact that everything else has remained the same. Besides, RCI is already losing a good deal of revenue with the drinking age change, they're not going to lose more by changing the gambling age too. Their age policies are now the same as Carnival Corps.
