Taxi or Tour

My family is trying to decide whither we should book a tour with a guide before we get there or find a taxi driver to give us a tour. I have heard all about Lawrence of Antiguia so we are considering him, but since other people can be on the tour I wanted to see what other people had experienced when they just got there and grabbed a taxi. (There would be 4 of us). We are interested in Nelson's Dockyard and a beach stop. Where did you go on your tour and how much was it? Thanks for the help!
