Rare steamboats Posted August 17, 2006 #2 Share Posted August 17, 2006 Hi yahooie, Do really mean Zurich, not Basel?? Basel is on the Rhine river, Zurich is on Lake Zurich. Both cruises are nice. Depends on what you love to see. If you want to experience famous European cities loaded with history Budapest - Nuremberg (with an extension to Prague??) might be better as you have Budpest, Vieanna and Prague on that route (and maybe the cruise offers a shore tour to Salzburg). The Middle Rhine Valley is one of the most prettiest parts of the Rhine river with all the bluffs (Loreley bluff), castles and vineyards. The Lower Rhine river is not as spectecluar as the Middle part. Heidelberg and Ruedesheim may be highlights of this tour (and Amsterdam). Both cruises are great. It´s up to you! steamboats
cmthomas Posted August 17, 2006 #3 Share Posted August 17, 2006 I might add that there are many, many posts in this forum that give detailed descriptions of virtually every itinerary of every river cruise on every line on the rivers so take several hours and read them all to get a flavor of what is available. I am sure that you will come away with the conclusion that there is no such thing as a bad river cruise - providing that the water levels and weather cooperate!
