has anyone done the pub crawl that is offered through RCCL? I will be in Key West on October 20th and am thinking of doing it.

I haven't done RCCI's Pub Crawl, but I can say that all you need to do is go bar-by-bar on Duval and buy your own T-shirt in any one of the many bars' souvenier stores, such as that of Irish Kevin's, Hog's Breath or Sloppy Joe's.

 

There are also popular bars just off Duval, such as at the Schooner Wharf at the historical wharf area, Rum Barrel and Island Dog's on Front Street, Green Parrot on Southard, the oldest saloon in Key West--- Capt Tony's Saloon on Green Street.

 

Of course if you would prefer the company of other revelers from the cruise ship, then by all means take the tour through the ship. You probably won't go wrong. I have heard some say the "Duval Crawl" tours start "too early" often as early as ten AM.

I agree about doing it on your own. There are a lot of great bars and if you find one you really like, you can stay as long as you want without worrying about being on someone else's schedule (as long as you make it back to the ship on time). During our last visit to KW, we saw tours come through Lazy Gecko and Rum Barrel while we were there enjoying our drinks (two different days). The group that came in Rum Barrel was HUGE and it was right about happy hour time. They didn't stay long, but we were there for a few hours (great band on the rooftop in the evenings).

 

The great thing about Key West is there are rarely any cover charges, so you can pop in and out lots of places as often as you like. We'll be in Key West October 25 - 31, and plan to hit as many as we can. ;)

:) A little tip, when you have a drink at Schooner Wharf, which is one of our favorites, the is a web cam camera. Sit at the bar, and ask the bartender where the webcam is. Then, what we did, was call our daughter and had her go to "schoonerwharf.com" on computer with her phone, and we checked in and chatted while having a cold beer at bar.

We also called a couple of friends, that was a lot of fun. Its just something neat to do, if you have to check in at home, because your family (kids), friends, can see you:D, what a blast.

Key West is really too cool a place to see with a group on some kind of organized "bar hop". See it on your own!:)
