CLL Legend Golden Fleece dining question

How is the booking for the formal dining restaurant done?

How far in advance do you have to book?

Do they really have Joes Stone Crabs, and or lobster on their menu?

How are the steaks?

Is the ambience worth the experience, as hubby and I are celebrating our 25th Anniversary, and this is our 1st cruise.

Are you asking about the supper club? The regular dining rooms are referred to as the formal dining rooms.

I'm sure you'd enjoy your anniversary dinner in the supper club...a little more special, I'd think. I don't believe Joe's Stone Crabs, or any other stone crabs are available, but yes they do serve lobster there. Happy anniversary.:)

Yes thanks, it is the supper club. Alot of CCL advertisng mentions Joes Stone Crab, but lobster will do. My husband can put away a huge porthouse without taking a breath, and no he is not an overeater, just 6'4" with a hollow leg. He'd rather eat a good quality steak and forgo the trimmings. Although, I am sure it won't take must coaxing to get him to order seconds on dessert LOL!

What about reservations, are they easy to get, how far in advance do we have to book them, where do we book them?

I know...so many questions...but I call it baby steps...as 1st we booked the cruise without even discussing it, we were only talking casually about going back to Huatulco, Mexico (all inclusive), but Signature Travel website was not working, so he googled vacation for late January, and CCL came up. I called to ask a few questions, and he booked 5 minutes later. We had to ask the PVP where we were going.

The point is once he realized what wasn't included...he got a little antsy...soft drink card, as he does not drink...shore excursions...my alcohol and specialty coffee's...deviation to arrive a day early as we are travelling from Canada in January, hotel pre-cruise, rental car, shopping in Fort Lauderdale, not to mention Sign and Sail..and now I am trying to introduce the supper club approx $100US($115CDN)....like i said ...baby steps.

Hi

We just got off the Legend last Friday - the Super club is $30 pp and although we didn't eat there, I wish we did. All the folks who did speak highly about it - great food, atmosphere, entertainment, 7 course meal.

I don't think you would be disappointed. You can make reservations once you are on the ship - they seem to have capacity every night, however, given it is your 25th, you might want to reserve in advance just to make sure. You should be able to get a copy of the menu from Carnival or some where on this board, I believe I've seen it. Happy anniversary !!

We were on the Legend 2 years ago and they did have Joe's stone crabs. I'm allergic so it didn't matter. They also have a large lobster tail available which my son loved. There are also delicious steaks, chops and chicken as well as sea bass. Excellent quality. We went 2 nights. The second night was not as good with poor service. When I complained, they took my wine of the check. Food was still excellent. AVOID THE GEORGES BLANC DEGUSTATION MENU UNLESS YOU LIKE STRANGE FOOD PREPARATION.

Make your reservations as soon as you board since they do fill up early. But, both nights we did see empty tables. A word of caution is that if you don't show, they still charge you.

Both the Chilean Sea Bass and the Crab Claws are "history". My wife did try the Georges Blanc menu. She said it was good - I sampled, and decided that I would NEVER order that. I prefer the Beef Carpaccio, Warm Spinach Salad, Filet - RARE!, Yukon Gold Mash w/wasabi. If you can, after all of that, still comfortably finish off dessert, than you do have a hollow leg...:D

I would make reservations as soon as you board. Go up and look around the supper club, and let them know which table you would like. Each table is reserved for the entire evening, so you are never rushed to clear the way for another group. Go ahead and reserve at least TWO nights, as there will be things on the menu that you will want to try - and you can always cancel the 2nd night if you desire later. Dinner reservations begin at 6 PM, but keep in mind that the live music does not begin until 7 PM.

BON APPETIT!!

Tom

DW & I ate at the Golden Fleece, on the Legend, on our cruise this spring.

We booked imediately after the muster drill, and we happened to choose the night of the Martinique stop, since we would return to the ship early for a 14:00 departure,, and it wasn't a formal night --I hate to miss those !!

For us it was well worth the $30pp surcharge, (tipping extra of course!)

Caution on the lobster !! We're from New Brunswick, & being from Ottawa you're probably used to 'northern' Atlantic lobster; the lobsters served here are the 'rock' lobsters that frequent the southern climes (much smaller front claws), and less tasty, IMO !!

You might be disappointed with the lobster choice, I know my wife was, as were a group from Maine, but the rest of the choices were excellent, and the desserts were 'to die for' !

Enjoy your cruise as well as your dining experience at the supper club.

Like Tom-n-Cheryl said go to the Golden Fleece and pick the table you would like to reserve. The tables by the window sound like a good idea but it was dark by the time we sat down and it was near larger tables which got a little noisy. We like the tables on the first level near the dance floor were we can listen to the music. We usually end up going twice but we find out what nights are formal and then pick two of the remaining nights. The Legend's itinerary is nice for specialty dining because you have eight days.

My wife and I celebrated our 25th anniversary in the Golden Fleece two weeks ago. It was a great evening and well worth the extra dollars. We made our reservations as soon as we boarded at the table in the atrium.

We went the second full sea day it was not that crowded. We sat by a window with mostly other two-tops near us, it was very quiet and very romantic. The meal took about three hours and we were stuffed. I had the porterhouse, and my wife had the Filet. They did offer lobster, but no crabs.

They took very good care of us, and made it a very special anniversary dinner.

I second what every one is saying about the Golden Fleece. I just got back last Friday and thorougly enjoyed the restaurant. We booked as soon as we got on the Legend and went the day we were in Tortola. I was surprised how uncrowded it was. When we were there only about 6 tables were occupied. The menu is mostly steak. (Somewhere here I have seen the complete menu.) I had the filet mignon and it was the best I've ever had. For an appetizer I got the escargot and it was prepared about 5 different ways, each one better that the other. My friend had a Caesar's salad prepared at the table and she raved about it. The wine steward came over and gave excellent choices for the wine which was extra. If you still have room after everything, dessert is wonderful. I got the chocolate tart which was 3 different dishes filled with delicious chocolate. My friends and I figured that if one was served a meal like we had at the Golden Fleece, it would cost more than $100. If you have an opportunity, don't pass up the Golden Fleece!

  • 2 weeks later...
WE WILL BEGIN OUR CRUISE ON SEPT. 25, 2006. OUR 18TH ANNIVERSARY IS ON OCT. 1 WE WILL BE CRUISING WITH 6 OTHERS. DO I INVITE THEM TO COME WITH US OR DO WE TELL THEM WE WANT TO BE ALONE?

Tell your friends you'd enjoy having a special evening to yourselves to celebrate your special occasion. Your friends can always join you on another night -- my new standard is to dine at the specialty restaurant at least twice each cruise. :D
