MISSYLOU Posted July 11, 2004 #1 Share Posted July 11, 2004 I have been reading some posts regarding the Pinnacle Grill. Do all HAL ships have a specialty restaurant?
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 11, 2004 #2 Share Posted July 11, 2004 :) Oh yes - HAL in the past year has added the Pinnacle Grill to all their ships. We have eaten there on quite a few of the ships. Love the food. It is well worth the $20 per person charge. :D
sail7seas Posted July 11, 2004 #3 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Pinnacle Grill is an alternative restaurant that is on almost all HAL ships. It features Northwest cuisine and is fabulous IMO If you do a search here, I think you will find alot of info about it, including the menu. I posted the menu within the last week. The charge is $20 pp except if you pre-book before boarding for the first night. Then the charge is $10 pp. Tips are not included in those amounts. darnapar Posted July 11, 2004 #5 Share Posted July 11, 2004 I don't want to get into a tip debate, but am wondering if all servers are spliting the auto tips why is the Pinnacle servers not included in this?
MISSYLOU Posted July 11, 2004 Author #6 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Thank you all for your replys. Sail saw the menu you posted. Everything sounds yummy. What would you all suggest as a tip? We always thought HAL's food was great and we are looking forward to trying the Pinnacle.
barbon Posted July 11, 2004 #7 Share Posted July 11, 2004 Loved the Pinnacle on the Amsterdam last year, was not as impressed on the Maasdam this year. Felt the food and service was not up to par.
Krazy Kruizers Posted July 11, 2004 #8 Share Posted July 11, 2004 :) barbon When were you on the Maasdam? We were on her last November right after the Pinnnacle Grill had been added to the ship. Do agree at that time that the food and service were not good. The European crew had not been trained very well. But we went there several times on our May cruise and everything was excellent - food great - service great. :)
sail7seas Posted July 11, 2004 #9 Share Posted July 11, 2004 We experienced exactly the same thing as KK. We boarded for our b-to-b's when they left from theirs. Our first visit to Pinnacle was not as good as we had enjoyed on Zuiderdam. By the time we left two weeks later, the food and service had improved greatly. We are looking forward to dining at least once (probably more) on Maasdam next week and I'll be sure to make comments about our impression this time. Krazy Kruizers Posted July 11, 2004 #10 Share Posted July 11, 2004 :) For some unknown reason HAL made a decision not to include the Europeans working in the Pinnacle Grill in their new tipping policy. So we did tip but we did not tip as much as we usually did in the past to our wine steward because of the 15% gratuity added onto the bill of which he gets most of that money. We never suggest what to tip. Believe that it is personal as everyone has different standards and expectations of service. :)
